Chester Zoo Chester Zoo news 2025

Any particular reason for their separation from the camels?

Just not leaving a massive empty paddock in the middle of the zoo, I think. That's (as far as I'm aware) the only reason the camels moved, and no reason to disturb the Onagers by moving them as well. :)

I just noticed Chester imported Goeldi's monkey (Callimico goeldii) in 2024. The first time they have held this species.

I noticed there has been a reshuffle in Miniature Monkeys when I was there on Saturday. The Pied Tamarins are now in the 'small' half, with White-bellied Pygmy Marmosets, Emperor Tamarin, and Goeldi's Monkey in the other. Golden-headed Lion Tamarin no longer evident - the two enclosures' signage was still the wrong way round unhelpfully, but the lion tamarin sign had been removed while the others remained.

I wonder if some of these species will ever be seen outside regularly. I can olny remember seeing Pygmy Marmosets outside.

Like you, I think I can only remember seeing a Pygmy Marmoset outside but apart from that, the mini monkeys are always inside.

Has anyone seen the tamandua outside yet? Agree with others, practically never seen the monkeys outside.

I have also never seen any monkeys outside on the islands opposite the Onagers but then again, those islands are very overgrown with trees and would be very difficult to spot any.

Has anything come to fruition with the rumour that 2 of whipsnade elephants were going to chester

Both the Alaotran Gentle Lemurs and the Belted Ruffeds were out and about on the canal islands on Saturday - I'll try to post some photos later. :)

The construction of the "Heart of Africa "project has officially been completed. Andrew Durham, of Telford based construction firm McPhillips said that the project was, really, really interesting. The company had a very tight working relationship with all of the animal teams involved and had to be careful not to disturb any animals, which included not using cranes.
Has anyone got the plans that they could share?

Does anyone know why they closed the path that used to around these islands?

I've seen one of the tamandua outside, couldn't get a clear photo with the grass/foliage, my camera loves a bit of greenery
