Chester Zoo Chester Zoo Reports 2018

I can only find mention of 1 baby Spider monkey birth on the website Oct 17 (so I think I’ve chosen the correct thread) but on my last 2 recent visits there were 2 very young Spider monkeys; I would guess both under 3 months old & what seems like 1 very heavily pregnant female.

a lot of births at the zoo are never mentioned on the website.

Any signage/photos of the fish yet? I unfortunately didn't make it to Chester before returning to university.

As far as I know, the fish labels in the Jaguar house tank have not been changed since the exhibit was opened.

Wasn't sure which thread this was meant to go on, whether this or discussion.

Further to my visit yesterday at Chester, the big fish tank in the Spirit Of The Jaguar, holds the following species of fish for those who wanted to know;

Bleeding Heart Tetra
Freshwater Angelfish
Diamond Tetra
Black Neon Tetra
Lizard Tetra
Reticulated Corydoras
Sterba's Catfish
Golden Mojarra
Bristlenose Catfish
Bronchis Catfish
X-Ray Tetra
Cardinal Tetra
Penguin Tetra
Flame-Back Bleeding Heart Tetra

Also the Giant Otter's is now fully viewable again, although yesterday they were working on the outside section, so they were inside. Also the Wildlife Wood Play Area was finished.

The play area has been finished for a few weeks, we had it all to our selves for around an hour 2 weeks ago. Kids really enjoyed it

Good call on putting this info in Reports! Strictly speaking you could have posted it here and then quoted it in the Discussion thread, but that's just taking a different road to the same town.

I doubt that. It will probably become a small madagascar themed cafe or an extension to the gift shop. The shop was rebranded recently to fit with the play area anyway.
Yes, you're right. The Building was built quickly and cheaply in 1958 as the Fountain Restaurant. As was often the case in Chester Zoo history, the zoo acquired the glass either free or at a very low price from Pilkintons who had the glass available from a failed order. So the restaurant was built to accommodate the glass rather than the other way round! It was never designed to last and demolition is now overdue. A bespoke Madagascar themed replacement is planned, likely to be constructed Spring 2019.

Glad to hear the giant otters are no longer semi-onshow, I’m looking forward to seeing them outdoors once again!

Black Pond Turtle (Geoclemys hamiltonii) are now on-show in Dragons in Danger and Henkel's Leaf-tailed Gecko (Uroplatus henkeii) are now on-show in the former Blue-legged Mantella exhibit mixed with the Tomato Frogs. Damba (Paretroplus damii) are also now in with the Pinstripe Damba in the Aquarium.

have the black pond turtles replaced one of the other three turtle species?

A lot of these recent news I have already seen but I never realised they were new :/ For example the new additions MagpieGoose mentioned and the recent deer birth...

Other things of note after visiting with @MagpieGoose today:

- radiated tortoises are now in the Galapagos pen, unsure if temporary

- garganey unsigned in Condor Cliffs

- saw a six-lined grass lizard in the first Monsoon viv

- Willie the Bornean orangutan has nearly reached full maturity, hair is nice and long and his cheekpads are getting veeeery pronounced

- new fencing in indian rhino paddock, allowing both to be outside in the main enclosure whilst separated
