I think someone was asking how many Red Panda there now are?

Two.

One even moved! (Well, its head slightly...)

Saw two Pallas Cat - maybe because it was late afternoon and no other visitors in area.

Saw the little Great Indian, who is simply gorgeous, but not the new Okapi. Is there a best time for the latter?

Hint for would-be Pallas Cat watchers; That's exactly the same conditions as I saw them best at Howletts too- late in the day and it was very quiet. Active in more than one enclosure where they were invisible earlier.
 
They had 2 pallas cats on display a couple of weeks ago, one roaming and one lying in the long grass.

One in the smaller Oak at the "owl" end of the enclosure. T'other higher up in the largest of the mature trees (which didn't actually move, but pretty sure it wasn't a discarded soft toy at that height).

One sitting on a rock looking straight at us - remarkably difficult to see until we noticed it, then obvious - the other walked right to left across the front of the enclosure. Both within a few feet of us.

I did hear the keeper say "she likes to climb up really high in the middle tree" so maybe I missed a reference to a new male. Good to hear :)
 
Most of the houses are taking shape and the poles to hold the netting up are complete for the 2 smaller enclosures.
 
When I spoke to a primate keeper she made it quite clear she didn’t expect it to be complete until early 2019 however it does seem like they’ve made progress. May I ask what are the two small enclosures for ?
 
Should be a great development. Will the opening of this bring the beginning of the construction of the new lion exhibit
 
Don't think the 2 are closely linked, they are still awaiting planning permission for the lions. And as its being built outside current zoo boundaries won't effect the zoo or means closures of areas. Think work will just start shortly after planning is granted. With a plan to open for May half term or summer holidays.
