On the other hand, the new system in June's Pavilion actually means that there is nothing stopping people from taking their own cups and getting the drinks free.

A number of vivaria about the zoo are currently being refurbished, it is now the turn of the invertebrates in Tropical Realm and the Red-Tailed Racers in the orang house to have their exhibits re-done.

Additionally, 0.2 Dik-Dik have moved to Colchester but as far as I am aware neither individual was on-show anyway.

What's in the vicuña exhibit? Are the rhea still about?

Rhea left last year if memory serves me correctly, now Capybara in the main paddock with a young female Giant Anteater in the back pen that used to house the male Vicuña.

A visit yesterday confirmed the following:

- Okapi and Natal Red duiker are now mixed, are the adult breeding pair of Okapi mixed full time?

- The male Bornean Orangutan 'Tuan' is semi on-show on the old island (Where Blackpool's group was held).

Dicky and Stuma have been back together for several months now. The Duiker have been mixed with the Okapi virtually as soon as they relocated from there previous exhibit (where they were also mixed with okapi!)

3pm today (25th July) and repeated 2pm Sunday (27th July)

Gardeners World on Radio 4 broadcast from the Zoo.

I'm hoping it references some of the specific gardens and greehouses of the zoo and their history.

Can anybody confirm if the Servals are expecting?

I doubt anyone will confirm this either way, as Chester prefer not to confirm pregnancies in advance wherever possible.

Visited today. Very hot and busy, but most animals showing quite well. Tuan made an appearance on his climbing frame, but very wisely used one of his sacks as a sunshade and hood, which made it hard to get a decent photo.
There was a crocodile monitor on show in the Komodo dragon outdoor pen (with the old label) as well on the one in RotRA. The best sight was a new-born lesser kudu calf, which I saw as it was trying to suckle for the first time while the mother was delivering the placenta. Photos to follow I hope.

According to the summer 2014 EAZA Zooquaria newsletter, Chester has become one of the most recent new holders for Northern Luzon slender-tailed cloud rat.

Hopefully wont have to wait until 2015 to see these guys on show! Very happy with this new addition! :D

Excellent to have this species back in a public collection in the UK - Newquay having sent the last of their stock to the continent last year.

One imagines that zoogiraffe is rather pleased about this arrival too; I believe that although this is the most "common" of the three cloud rat species in European collections, it is also the only one he has never seen!
