At tonights members talk the zoo confirmed that one Aye-Aye has arrived at the zoo and a partner is being sourced.

Also a new male black rhino is here or is about to be here to join Chester's breeding program hopefully following the departure of Sammy to Port lympne

They arrived for Dresden about 6-7 weeks ago,and are currently off-show until the zoo has a couple of colony's up and breeding! At present they have the 1 breeding group which is now 35+ strong and doing very well!!!

that's excellent news, I hope to see them on show at some point

The topic here is "Chester Zoo Summer 2014" but this is how it all started in 1930s

Visited yesterday, work on Islands is progressing steadily and the entrance bridge is nearly complete.

The animals for Lantern Magic at Christmas are now on the Oakfield Lawn. In the middle of September. I think it is far too early.

Visitors are still having problems reading and understanding the map.

Saw a young sitatunga, and one of the onagers seems to have made friends with a camel, they were together each time I passed the exhibit.

This is a quote from the current carnivore keeper vacancy at Chester zoo
"This post will involve the daily care and management of a variety of carnivore species including Asian Lions, Sumatran Tigers, African painted dogs, Malayan sun bears and Cheetahs to name a few. Training will also be provided on several other mammal sections to cover any shortcomings in staffing levels."

MALAYAN SUN BEAR!!!!!

MALAYAN SUN BEAR!!!!!

Probably a typo. I sincerely hope not, but probably a typo.

Can you post a link to this vacancy? I can't seem to find it.

MALAYAN SUN BEAR!!!!!

Are they the back fill for the tiger enclosure? Or might they be an addition to RORA? Exciting news. I would speculate they might eventually join the tapirs and Komodo dragons if phase 2 of Islands launches in a couple of years time???

Decline in visitor numbers?

No mention of the 'millionth visitor' so far this year.

In 2012 this was 7th September and last year the millionth visitor was 2nd September.

Either they haven't posted this info yet or there has been a slight decline in visitors??

Maybe the Animazing summer wasn't as much of a draw as the DInosaurs and the Bugs the previous years? I'd suggest that they are not far behind in truth judging by how busy the zoo has been on my regular visits.

Hi just been on the biaza website to look at the jobs and just noticed that there is a job as a carnivore keeper. then is saw a list of animals on the carnivore section and one of the animals were "sun bears". is this a mistake or are sun bears going to be in the old Sumatran tiger enclosure!:D

To be honest I hate the 'animazing' tag line.... And the graphics that go with it are just plain awful!! One of the worst campaigns I can remember..... Not sure how much this may have to do with visitor numbers?

There may be slightly less income from visitors this year, but I guess there will have been less expenditure on attracting them too.

They do not have Malayan bears yet, ask again this time next year.
