This is a big task, but I'm hoping I can get an extensive list of species at the zoo and whereabouts they are kept. This is because I am planning to visit on the 11th (I think it's the world cup final, so hoping it will be quiet) and I really want a conveniant checklist of all species and which area they are in. This includes as many birds/reptiles/inverts/fish as possible, because these are the things I will miss otherwise.

For example, you could put a title like 'monkey islands' and then list the species on show there. Example:

This is mainly for aviaries and places like tropical realm. I understand that this will be a difficult task, but any help is greatly appreciated.

On a side note, if there is a particular species that you would like me to try and photograph to put in the gallery, simply type the species name and its location in red.

To be honest I use wikipedia as a first port-of-call when trying to find something out/research an animal since it provides me with alot of information. I know that it has a reputation for not always being reliable, but I find that the information I get from it is accurate after seeing it on other [more reliable] sites.

Thanks for sharing these by the way :). Could anybody give me a complete list of birds in Tsavo aviary, and a list of birds in the tropical realm? (Also, whereabouts is the Rhinoceros Ratsnake in tropical realm?)

Have just checked this out and it would appear either name is correct if Chester had Cephalopus natalensis.But their are 2 sub-species of this species one of which is Cephalopus natalensis natalensis and the other which is Cephalopus natalensis harveyi,Chester have C n n hence the reason that I use the Red Natal as the name for the species.
 
Rhinoceros Snakes are in between the Caiman Lizards and the Beaded Lizards.

Other owls are Hawk Owl and White-faced Scops Owl

I thought the twilight zone had some fish as well as a mice species of some sort, from memory (was a while back I visited though). Also the elephant exhibit had at least one fish species (asian arowana?)

I was debating this (internally) earlier; ISIS has Chester holding a Cephalophus natalensis, which is the red forest variety, not Cephalophus natalensis natalensis. Having said that, they confusingly call Cephalophus natalensis natalensis the red forest duiker too, although the range is clearly different.

At least we can clear up that it's not Cephalophus natalensis harveyi, which is Harvey's red duiker from Tanzania and Kenya.

Hey, just be thankful we've seen it, whatever it is. :D

Don't come back without photographs of the Cabot's tragopan, a sand lizard, the red forest duiker, both spectacled bears (together), at least four coatis in the same shot and a clear view of the Kirk's dik-dik. Should be a breeze. ;)

No Fish in the Fruit Bat Forest now.
 
Don't they still have Blind Cave Fish? The catfish pond has been filled in.

Just taken this link from zootierlist I know from personnal experience that a couple of the German collections listed have the as Cephalopus natalensis natalensis on the signs for them in the zoo`s,and one of them supplied Chester with a Duiker I will believe German efficiency!!

Im not sure if there are still Yellow Mongooses in with the Hogs aswell come to think of it.

I will try my best, since I'd like to see the Duiker and Dik-Dik anyway, so photos will happen if I see them :) At the end of the day it will be luck (not a member, so can't spend hours at one exhibit)

Does anybody have a suggested route for photography, timing enclosures with when outdoor lighting is good and when animals are out/active? I usually head straight for the Rhinos, but want to go to Realm of the Red Ape first this time as I've heard this is best time, however it leaves little room for a planned route.
 
On the fish front and probably little-known, there's a two-three feet long sturgeon (don't know which species) in the QEII Silver Jubilee Garden.
