Lots of News and Updates!

construction update: "Australia is in its final renovation phase. We are planning for a grand opening celebration at the end of May. The new building is for the new homes for the zoos budgies, alligators, emu and wallabies. We’re also really excited to welcome our new male TREE KANGAROO to the mountainside!"

"Just north of Monkey Pavilion, the exhibit that was once home for our lions (before they moved to Encounter Africa), is now being renovated for our two mountain tapirs – Carlota and Cofan. Once this renovation is complete, the tapirs will move from their current off-exhibit home near the top of the Zoo, and our guests will once again be able to view them. The walls on the front of the exhibit have been removed, the steep terrain is being filled in, and soon a new pool will be constructed. The project is scheduled to be complete in mid-summer."

The bald eagles will be moving from their current home behind the grizzly bears to their new location across from the otters in Rocky Mountain Wild. The exhibit will be complete by the end of May, and will house female eagle, Ouray, this summer. Once Ouray is comfortable in the exhibit, Montana, our male eagle, will join her.

The hornbill exhibit construction hasn’t started yet, but once it does, it will be located across from the Colobus monkeys at the top of the African Rift Valley tower.

The zoo will also have a few new animals joining us for the summer –baby Nubian goats! The babies will be a summer-only feature in My Big Backyard, and they will be a fun addition for kids of all ages visiting the exhibit. Right now the goats are in an off-exhibit area for their 30-day quarantine period, which is standard for all incoming animals to ensure they are healthy. They will be out by the second week in May.

The zoos conservation building is slowly being crushed by a landslide thanks to a spell of bad weather. Inside are toads and black footed ferret breeding facilities. All animals are being relocated, the toads within the zoo, the pregnant female ferrets to quarantine and the rest of the ferrets are being shipped out to the US Wildlife Breeding Facility in Fort Collins.
