Chimpanzees in Europe

Hannover - Maleika is hybrid and the others are generic without sub-status I think.

Berlin:
1.0 Pedro, ca 1980 - also generic
1.0 Karel, born 1981 in Amsterdam, hybrid
0.1 Gusta, born 1979 in Rotterdam, hybrid
0.1 Soko, born 1989 in Berlin, hybrid

MAXI at Hannover, ZENTA and SOFIE belong to P. t. troglodytes. The other ones are hybrids.

With Pedro in Berlin you are right. I don't think so with the other ones though.

Zenta and Sofie are in Hellabrunn/Munich, not in Hannover, both are generic either way IMO

Maxi, Toto, Chunya and Victoria are not troglodytes if I read the studbook correctly. They are listed p.t., which I read as "generic/unidentified". If they are troglodytes they stand as p.t. troglodytes.

The 2014 studbook is outdated, new methods have since become available to test for subspecies status of chimps, so previously unidentified individuals could be assigned to a subspecies.

Thank you for the answers!
Are there an updated studbook anywhere?

True but It's the best we got to fathom the current status. Unless someone can get access to the most recent one.

Are there a website or a studbook where can I see these new infos/results?

There is no publicly available studbook after the 2014 one. Which means what is publicly available is what zoos themselves communicate. You do have the option to put in an information request at species360 to see the number of individuals per zoo for each taxon, but there will be an error margin in there as subspecies demarcation is up to the zoo itself and error prone. That link is broken on their website. but the form still works though: Species Holding Request

Do you know the namelist with mentioning the subspecies of Zoo Saarbrücken and Beavual?

ZENTA and SOFIE were born in Stuttgart, both belong to P. t. troglodytes.

You are right with p.t.t. - I was just wondering why you mentioned them as the Munich chimps had not been a topic. Cindy in Landau is p.t.t as well, but Maxi at Hannover not as far as I know.

@Vimoto: there are three females left at Saarbrücken. Guidage is p.t. verus, Wilma is generic, and Maggy is hybrid

Thank you for the answer. Do you know what happened with Jonny, Jimmy and Takki?

Jonny died last year. I don't know about the other two - I suppose they are dead, particularly Takki was very old. It's definitely only three females left and Saarbrücken is looking for a place for them to end keeping chimpanzees.

At Safaripark Beekse Bergen, chimpanzee Marlies died yesterday at the age of 42. She had been ailing with her health in recent months. Yet her death came unexpectedly.

Recently, her caretakers noticed that Marlies was occasionally isolating herself from the group and eating inconsistently. They also noted during regular check-ups that her weight had increased considerably.

To rule out any major problems, she was examined by the vet. During anaesthesia, she died. Further investigations should now reveal what was going on.

I visited the chimpanzees in Beauval Zoo too. But I only saw some of them.
Does anybody how the name of group members and in which subspecies are they belong?

I’d be happy to post a history if that’s what your interested in. I have records, I just need to compile them into one comprehensive list.

Please would you be able to tell me the dates of birth and parents of Gerry and Digby (about 1976 I think) who went to Zootopia in Bognor Regis in 1979?

Copied directly from my records:
M Jerry (06/07/1976) x 10342 Sent to Zootopia 04/06/1979
M Digby (14/12/1975) x 10824 Sent to Edinburgh 26/08/1982

Neither's sires were listed.

Jerry's mother was Meg (1947-2000), Digby's was Jeannie (1961-1978).

Jerry was Digby's uncle as Jeannie was one of Meg's first offspring.
