Chimpanzees in Europe

Some news from Copenhagen:
The new outdoor exhibit for the chimps will be opening on the 16th, which is next Friday. The building began over a year ago and finished over the winter. Source
I've shared some photos of what the exhibit looked like some months ago. They have added more plants, ropes and puzzle feeders since then.

Donna, who was transfered to the zoo in late February (Born in Chester Zoo, transfered to Zoo Am Meer and then to Copenhagen), has been integrated into the group and is currently living with the rest of the chimps. She's been phenomenal during the entire process, and while still a bit nervous, she is getting more comfortable daily. The entire group was put together for the first time a couple of weeks ago. As she is the only chimp that has experienced the outdoors before, she can hopefully give the rest of the group some support to make them comfortable when they all go outside.

Some less happy news, one of the chimps, Yoran has passed away. He was 37 years old and had lived in Copenhagen Zoo since early 2000 where he was transfered from TNO. He was euthanized yesterday. This leaves the zoo with 10 chimps. Source
