As reported by @wunderswift in the Chester Zoo news thread: Toyah, the 5-year-old female chimpanzee at Chester Zoo, has died a couple of weeks ago from a bacterial infection.
Does anybody know how many chimpanzees Hodenhagen Serengeti Park has? What are their gender and to which subspecies are they belong?

According to a Species360/ZIMS species holding report I did in August 2023 (when they were more elaborate than the current tool on the IUCN website), they would have 6 (1.5) chimpanzees at that time. Of which 1.4 hybrid/without subspecies and 0.1 verus. It's a couple of years old, there might have been changes since Hodenhagen is not so great with announcing changes, but according to my information these are their chimpanzees:
1.0 Pitti, Feb 21, 2003 in Hodenhagen, Panko x Ponga, hybrid
0.1 Steile, ca 1963, wild caught, verus
0.1 Ponga, January 24, 1982, Arnhem, verus
0.1 Pranka, February 7, 1988 Arnhem, verus
0.1 Annie, Aug 26, 1997 in Hodenhagen, Panko x Pranka, hybrid
0.1 Pia, Jul 6, 1999 in Hodenhagen, Panko x Ponga, hybrid
0.1 Ilse, May 25, 2008 in Hodenhagen, Panko x Pia, hybrid
0.1 Anke, March 31, 2010 in Hodenhagen, Panko x Ponga, hybrid
Panko died in 2010, he was born in Whipsnade and was hybrid. Steile might be dead in the meantime considering her age, no clue about that. A couple of years ago they were eager to get into a breeding position but that's not doable with their group. Supposedly the indoor facilities are an issue

Some information was also shared today about the hybrid population:The EAZA Chimpanzee EEP recently launched its own Instagram account, where it shares all kinds of facts about chimpanzees. The most recent posts are about the EEP population itself. Here are some interesting facts to share:
West African chimpanzee (P. t. verus) population
At the end of September 2025, the EEP population of Western Chimpanzees counted 277 individuals, including 104 males, 172 females, and 1 individual yet uknown, ranging in age from 51 days to 59 years and 9 months.
There are 58 holders of Pan troglodytes verus in EAZA Chimp EEP; the largest groups of this subspecies can be observed in Zoo Basel, Chester Zoo, Zoo Leipzig, or Safaripark Beekse Bergen.
Central African chimpanzee (P. t. troglodytes) population
At the end of September 2025, the EEP population of Central African Chimpanzees counted 44 individuals, including 15 males and 29 females, ranging in age from 7 months to 59 years and 9 months, kept in 15 institutions.
Unfortunately, the population has been small for a long time, and in the last 5 years, only 5 individuals were born in 2 institutions (Zoo de La Palmyre and Zoo Plzen), and 4 of them have survived to this day.

I have a rough list that should give you the history of Chester's Chimps. PM me if your interested - I'll send it there instead of on the forum, as it's a little lengthy and jumbled. You'll have to piece it together yourself. Also does anyone have the full history of Chester’s chimps?
They’ve been holding chimps for along time and I know they have moved some to other parts of Europe. Boris who passed semi-recently had 22 offspring so I would love to see where they have all ended up.
