Over 100,000 police in China have taken part in raids on 5,962 wildlife markets, shut down 13 wildlife trafficking gangs, caught 1,031 illegal wildlife traders, seized over 130,000 wild animals and 2,000 animal products worth nearly 70 million yuan (1.11 million US dollars), shut down 7,000 high street shops for trading in endangered species and also shutting down 628 websites selling wildlife and endangered species products.

It's great to see China taking some real initiatives against the wildlife trade.

Very very very cool! Thanks for posting!

Finally! Absolutely brilliant - this has been needed for a long time. Thanks for posting this DesertRhino.

IF (and it's a colossal "if") China starts to look environmental issues generally, and global wildlife protection in particular, with a more altruistic attitude, then wildlife in the 21st century can start-maybe- to hope for a better world..

Maybe they'd also like to look at the practice of skinning animals alive for fur, and boiling cats and dogs alive for meat.

This is good news, although I have some reservations about the sourcing. Hopefully China will maintain the rage and prevent the networks from being rebuilt.

:p
