Hey guys, just wishing all you guys a happy chinese new year fro tommorrow.

" gong hei fat chow" to everyone,

also happy Australia day,
 
oh yeah forgot to mention this year is the year of the ox, hard-workers very determined people are born in this year.
 
I am a rooster with the element yin fire. It's meaningless to me though. I was born 19 Feb 1957.
 
neat, people born in the year of the rooster apparently have a nack for public speaking and are very articulate. Also very up to date and always knows what's going on. being also a fire rooster adds livelyness and energy to the person. :)
 
I'm dog which i find rather boring when you look at all the exotic animals i could have been. Apparently that makes me loyal and obediant.

Right there with you! but it is said in my family that exoctic animals like Tigers and Dragons usually make poor personalities within females. :(

Though my auntie is a doctor and recalls that she had to deliver a huge amount of babies in the year 2000, which was a dragon's year.
 
Main celebration here happens this sunday, next year is year of the tiger on the 14th of feb.

Yes, it's more complicated than your year animal sign.

Chinese culture uses several calendars for different things (solar, lunar, and a solar-lunar hybrid). So the dates according to Gregorian calendar change. Much like the various religious festivals and holidays in Christianity and Judaism and Islam.
 
The Chinese Calender only has 29 or 30 days for each month and particular years sometimes have 13 months. The new year is the welcoming of spring though almost always it is still in the middle of winter snowing and such.... though chinese consider that spring has arrived.
