Chushul Zoo - Lhasa - Tibet

I wonder if that is the highest elevation where elephants are displayed. And how they do at that elevation.

The only zoo in the world probably with Tibetan antelope and wild yak (???). Also typical highland species like kiang, Himalayan blue Bears..... and snow leopard. Would they have ties to Xining Zoo there?

The JA species like Lion, tiger are less inspring.
There are no chiru and wild yaks in the zoo, according to other visitor's feedback. No zoo could keep chiru alive outside their nature range for long time. And this zoo have no ties to Xining Zoo, which locates in Qinghai Province.

I thought Xining have them?

EDIT: I'm stupid, they have Tibetan gazelle not Tibetan antelope

Yes, you’re right. Obviously nobody else watched it (including myself) as debate over whether the zoo had Tibetan antelope and Wild yak ensured. The video states they do.

I've watched it and I believe the others did as well. Since is showing just a photo of a wild Chiru, it's presence seems a bit doubtful. Is it a photo of a Wild Yak, it's also hard to say. In a place like this, you never know, tho.

This looks like a pretty interesting (albeit possibly mid-standard) zoo frankly. Keeping Tibetan antelope and Wild Yak are both pretty impressive achievements that I believe were only previously done in Beijing zoo a while back.

I wonder if anybody located photos of both Tibetan antelope and wild yak from this zoo on social media?

Fun fact: Lhasa is ca 3600 m asl, while wild Asian elephants in the Himalayas reach 3200 m asl. So this is not so much above their natural environment!

A short video about species held at the zoo:

Discover Tibet: The first large-scale zoo

In response to previous queries and comments, the zoo has both Tibetan antelope and Wild yak.

Despite what the video claims, they have neither chiru nor wild yak on exhibit based on the reports of Chinese zoo enthusiasts. It won't surprise me if the zoo gets rescued individuals occasionally, but there's no evidence that the zoo has ever displayed a chiru, not to say keep a captive population. The zoo does have some typical Himalayan fauna on show, including snow leopard, Tibetan blue bear, Tibetan gazelle, bharal, Himalayan vulture and black-necked crane.

About wild yaks, the only place I know that keeps a captive population is Datong Yak Farm, which is located in Qinghai Province.

Apparently I was wrong claiming there's no chiru in Chusul! They do have one single male mixed with their bharals. The individual has been on exhibit by April at the latest.

I was skeptical myself, but I am happy to be proved wrong! Thank you for the information :)
