Cikananga Wildlife Center

October 2024
  • Cikananga has received 9 Sunda porcupines, an New Guinea crocodile, an wreathed hornbill, along with other birds, presumebly from confiscation.
November 2024
  • After nine crab-eating macaques are sent to the Jaringan Satwa Indonesia JAAN facility to Cikoe near Bandung for rehabilitation, five of these macaques have succesfuly been released back into the wild after they had been identified for their release potential.
  • The renovation of the aviary and eagle rehabilitation facility has been completed, which came after a fallen tree damaged these infrastructures earlier in the year.
  • Additionaly, an new aviary complex has almost finished construction.
December 2025
  • After generous fundings, the Cikananga's Sunda pangolin enclosure has been renovated, which now have increased high for more climbing opportunities, access to additional caves, and more access for sunlight and rainfall to encourage natural plant growth.
February 2025
  • Four Sunda slow loris, who had lived in the facility for a long time, has been translocated to the Ellis Park in South Sumatra. These four slow lorises are victims of the wildlife trade, which sadly are risky to be released back into the wild after their canine teeths had been removed by their former private keepers (A very prevalent and horrible practise in the slow loris keeping community). Their new home can hopefully suplement their needs further, being very close to their natural home afterall.

The 4 Wreathed honbills which were kept at the Center have been released into a Sanctuary in West Java :).
I know from before and visiting the center how often it is / was difficult to give the birds what they need most. The Center performs a gargantuan task and really does alot both on the ex situ and in situ sides of conservation. Wish more people both locally and ecotourists would know and visit the Center. They need all the funding they can get!
