I'm still hoping the Capybaras move there once Wildlife Canyon closes.

Do you think they could move into Wings of the World?
No, without doubt. There's no room anywhere for them, nor would it make sense. The Jungle Trails exhibit has been looking for a permanent, exciting resident for three years. It looks as if it was built for a capybara.

This has always been my hope as well. The only issue with this is that a whole new holding facility would have to be built for them. The current holding facility for that exhibit is little more than a shed to keep the birds (and now tortoises) in over night. That is why the saddle-billed storks had to be moved into the Jungle Trails basement every winter, and, ultimately, it was why the zoo decided to send away their saddle-billed storks. The only reason "Icky" came back to be displayed on the savanna is because the male she was paired with at the Audubon Species Survival Center tried to kill her.

Though I love the Capybara, I personally think they will probably keep Burmese Mountain Tortoises in there, and that exhibit may not have a permanent resident. What they should do however, is bring the Capybara there with a new holding facility, and the tortoises could be kept in one of the outdoor Asian bird exhibits in Jungle Trails, it would be an interesting match.

Looks like we're seeing a change in PETA?
For the better! PETA collaborated with several zoos, the USDA and the USFWS to rehome polar bears that were languishing at a circus in Suarez, Mexico way back when. Now they're in that mode again. All in all, a welcome change!
