As many of our zoo guests and followers know, our 27-year-old silverback gorilla Jomo was diagnosed by our vets and top neurologists with a degenerative spinal cord condition that unfortunately has no medical or surgical cure. It is increasingly affecting his mobility, and his quality of life is being closely monitored by the care team. To alleviate his symptoms, Jomo is being treated with medications and both laser and physical therapy. The gorilla keepers have a close relationship with Jomo and are able to expertly train him to do the exercises prescribed by a doctor of physical therapy. As the condition progresses, visitors may notice more labored walking and other physical changes caused by the disorder. For now, Jomo still enjoys time with his family and maintains his important role as the silverback leader and role model for the youngsters in his group.
 
The news about Jomo's health is very sad. I grew up with Jomo in Toronto. He is one of my favorites to have lived in Toronto. I remember him as a little guy and watching his antics. He is such a gentle soul like his parents Charles and Josephine. It will be a real loss to the population to loose him since his wild born mother only has two surviving offspring. He is a highly desirable male to have breeding. Now passing along Josephine's line is his sister Johari, nephews Mbundi and Zwalani and his three children Bakari, Mona and Elle. He has been a great father and adoptive father for Gladys. All we can do is wish him the best health possible for as long as he has left.
 
Few updates and changes since April - I apologize if any of this has already been announced.
- Florida Cooters, Mississippi Map Turtles, and River Cooters from Manatee Springs have been moved to the Cockatoo Island at the Reptile House - finally
- I believe it's been announced that there are now two pottos in the pocket exhibits in Night Hunters - but what wasn't mentioned, is now you are blocked from seeing through the back windows
- Chinese crocodile lizard replaced Black Tree Monitor in World of the Insect
- Daphne, the manatee is leaving today
- Helmeted Curassow and Scarlet Macaws are back together in the first Jungle Trails aviary. Victoria Crowned Pigeon and Kookaburras are in the second one.
- Pygmy slow lorises now take up all three nocturnal exhibit in the first Jungle Trails building
- A Henkel's leaf-tailed gecko, and Monkey-tailed (?) Gecko have replaced the Ground boa in Jungle Trails
- Cape Barren Goose is now on display with the Salmon-crested Cockatoo at Wings of the World
 
I thought they’re campaign had talked about renovating and improving the sea lion exhibit for sea lions? Also, does this mean there will be a little penguin exhibit and an African penguin exhibit opening?

You could argue that they mentioned they would renovate the exhibit. At the time, Duke hadn't died. Out of all of the campaigns for More Home to Roam, talk of improved sea lion and polar bear area areas were the least detailed.
