The zoo's gardens (and horticulture department) have been defining this zoo for 45 years. The horticulture department is larger than at most USA zoos but the zoo is also a botanical garden. There is no other botanical garden in or near Cincinnati. The zoo's horticulture department works closely with area nurseries and runs trials of annual flowers evaluating best varieties for local gardens. The plant collection must number at least 4,000 taxa by now (just a guess: it was over 3,000 when I was there in the '90s)

Out of all the zoos I've visited, I thought that Cincinnati Zoo had the best atmosphere. The garden aspect of the zoo makes it extremely appealing.

Henry Doorly Zoo had the largest collection out of all the zoos I've been to.

When comparing zoos in the United States to other parts of the world - I'd say that the United States has a solid streak of well-constructed exhibits, but Europe surpasses us when it comes to having a better collection of animals. Europe seems to have everything we have and more.

Sounds great, I´m sure I would love to visit this zoo, I appreciate great parks and botanical gardens.
 
@John Marchwick I do agree with you, even at its finest, it was never the best zoo in the U.S. or top 5-10 in that matter. Its a good zoo now but nothing like it was in the mid 90s early 2000s. I know you stated that you never visited but only if you were going to do a Midwest trip, it's not a singularity zoo to visit.

Can I use his statement for another zoo. I've never been to the San Diego Zoo but from the pictures posted of this place it must be horrible :p You can never judge a place if you never been there:D
 
Blue-throated Macaws are now in Jungle Trails.

Penguin Point (overhaul of the sea lion exhibit) is complete but not open. But this means guests can now access Wolf Woods again. They did a good job with the penguin habitat, like the one in Roo Valley, it has other waterfowl. I saw a duck with a yellow bill I could not ID, and cormorants. Yes, I will post photos.
 
In a new promotional video for penguin point, they said they would add pelicans to the exhibit in the future. I’m guessing they would move some of the pink backed pelicans from Africa over to penguin point.

..this was already reported a while back in the topic. (No hard feelings or anything :)). That said, they would be a worthy addition to Elephant Trek, we'll have to see what the definitive plan is, as the project could very well be value-engineered or meet a halfway point between "well, it *is* an improvement" and what the director/keeper-staff want for the animals which is the absolute best.
