This happened long ago, but what was the date of VERY elderly Black Rhino Julie's death. I know she lived to about 40 years old.
I think if you contact the zoo, chances are they'll have the information. This happened long ago, but what was the date of VERY elderly Black Rhino Julie's death. I know she lived to about 40 years old.

We are sad to share the news that beloved white lion Gracious, the last of her kind to live at the Cincinnati Zoo, was humanely euthanized on Tuesday. At almost 21 years old, she was considered a geriatric animal and, as such, her quality of life was closely monitored. Her health began to decline and when she lost interest in her favorite food, meatballs, her care team knew it was time to say goodbye. She lived five years longer than the median life expectancy for her species, which can be attributed to the special geriatric enrichment, diet, and TLC that she has received from her care team, some of whom had cared for her since she was born. This loss is especially tough for them. Gracious was the daughter of Prosperity, who was brought to the Zoo in 1998 by the famous Siegfried and Roy and died in 2020. Learn more about her in this tribute from a keeper who loved and cared for her from the day she was born. Sweet Baby Gracie: A Tribute | Cincinnati Zoo Blog
Wasn't the white lion exhibit supposed to be taken up as part of the new elephant complex? I know the layout changed a bit so what's the plan with this space now? From their Facebook:

Can a hippo calf be expected this year? I know the zoo said that they were planning to mate Tucker with both Bibi and Fiona, but I don't think Fiona will become a mother in 2022, but Bibi could give birth this year.
I love how you asked a question and then answered it yourself, lol. But you are correct, if a calf is born this year (which is definitely a possibility) it will be Bibi's. Only Bibi has a breeding recommendation with Tucker, not Fiona. The zoo never said they were planning to breed Tucker with both girls, just Bibi. Cincinnati barely has the room for one new calf, let alone two.I think there is maybe a 50% chance of a baby hippo in 2022, but most likely Bibi will be the mother.
The elephants arriving will be coming from Dublin Zoo, and four of them are set to arrive next year. 31-year old Yasmin, her 18-year old daughter Anak, and their juvenile sons 4-year old Kabir and 3-year old Sanjay. What are the names and ages of the new elephants arriving?
The latest plan shows the barn may at the very least be near the white lion space. It was originally intended to be a Gibbon island, but for now they have since been moved to the front of the Elephant Trek.Wasn't the white lion exhibit supposed to be taken up as part of the new elephant complex? I think that they need to bring in another young female unrelated to Kabir and Sanjay, since Sabu will be 36, which might be a little old to breed.I love how you asked a question and then answered it yourself, lol. Maliha, Jade, or Priya of the St. Louis Zoo would be a good match for the 2 young bulls.I think that they need to bring in another young female unrelated to Kabir and Sanjay, since Sabu will be 36, which might be a little old to breed.
Yeah no... you don't split up matrilineal herds like that. Also, can you make separate topics for speculation like this? I don't want to be a mini-mod, but talk like this just doesn't fit the vibe.Maliha, Jade, or Priya of the St. Louis Zoo would be a good match for the 2 young bulls.
This is such heartbreaking news! My condolences to the keepers and vets who cared for her for so many years. From their Facebook:

Sabu is definitely not to old to breed, I do not know where you got that from. Male elephants can potentially breed until death. Kabir and Sanjay will form a bachelor herd and will not be used for breeding purposes.I think that they need to bring in another young female unrelated to Kabir and Sanjay, since Sabu will be 36, which might be a little old to breed.
He is not to old to breed sure his last calf Nisha born in 2006 was 16 years ago, but at 36 he is in his prime and still very much capable of breeding, and no zoo is their right mind would separate a daughter from her family.I think that they need to bring in another young female unrelated to Kabir and Sanjay, since Sabu will be 36, which might be a little old to breed.
As @StoppableSan said you don't split up daughters from their family group that is a thing of the past. Zoos will send a matrilineal line to another zoo ex; Cologne sent Thi Ha Phyu, alongside her daughter Maha Kumari and grandson to Copenhagen Hannover sent Khaing Hnin Hnin her daughters Farina, Soraya, and Malay, and grand daughter Amithi to Pairi Daiza. And even Rotterdam zoo did it in 2006 when sending pregnant sisters Bernhardine, Yasmin and Yasmin's daughter Anak to Dublin Zoo.Maliha, Jade, or Priya of the St. Louis Zoo would be a good match for the 2 young bulls.
Like others have stated, Sabu is far from too old to breed. For example, Rex at OKC and Thai at Houston are both well into their 50s and have both sired calves recently.I think that they need to bring in another young female unrelated to Kabir and Sanjay, since Sabu will be 36, which might be a little old to breed.
Kabir and Sanjay are many many years from breeding age while Maliha, Jade, and Priya all should start breeding ASAP so there's no way that's happening. Plus, I really doubt that Saint Louis would be willing to let their youngest breeding cows go or that Cincinnati would go through the trouble of importing cows all the way from Ireland, and then import a few more from Missouri immediately after.Maliha, Jade, or Priya of the St. Louis Zoo would be a good match for the 2 young bulls.

Also, not to be rude or anything but perhaps you should read up on how long elephants live, their reproductive lifespan, and herd structure before you post these things.
I am curious to know about what kind of cause that Sheegwa would pass away from. I would imagine that it was probably a kind of minor issue relating to her age, or perhaps, she may have been euthanized for a different reason that we may probably never know about; but nonetheless, may she rest in peace, poor thing.Sheegwa, the clouded leopard, was euthanized at the age of 19.
