Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Cincinnati Zoo News 2025

The new Bear Ridge and Sea Otter Coast is coming together great. I saw it in person last week and it’s looking really good! I attached a link to the video update the zoo gave last week. Sounds like they can open this new area up in the next month or so! I’m hoping after this they share what’s next, specifically the new giraffe exhibit in the old elephant area and more exact details of what will go in the old giraffe exhibit. The New Mexican wolf exhibit does not look to have started construction yet. I’m also interested with what they are doing with the old rhino exhibit. I know they have moved the zebras there, not sure if it’s temporary or permanent. Hopefully we will get more in depth details soon. Lots of exciting things going on!

* Worth mentioning that the zoo transferred a (1.0) radiated tortoise to San Francisco Zoo in California in October 2024, and a (1.0) southern tamandua named Salvador to Indianapolis Zoo in Indiana in November 2024

Yesterday I visited the zoo and here are some updates one of the vampire bat exhibit is closed in the nocturnal house now the Milwaukee zoo decided to close their small mammals building and they had vampire bats and the only other zoo in the Midwest that has vampire bats is cincinnati so we may get more vampire bats

2 I believe one of the elderly bearcats in the nocturnal house has passed

3 I went to the cheetah show and Jambo the serval has retired from jumping to catch the ball and sir Francis bacon has retired from running to the keepers both due to arthritis

The reptile house
4 I saw the new king cobra his name is Alex and he is now next to another species of cobra the yellow tailed cobra
5 the old baby komodo dragon exhibit in the reptile house is now home to the Burmese python

From the Facebook membership page.

Asian small-clawed otter pups Ripple, Splash, Puddles, and Scuttle have completed their swim lessons and will be viewable (when they’re not napping) to the public in their outdoor habitat starting tomorrow! Members will have the first opportunity to see them at 9 a.m. Keep in mind the otter family will have access to their indoor area as well so and they nap a lot still so you will have to get lucky to see them early on.

The Vampire Bats acquisition is purely speculation. Cincinnati just sent 70.0 of their colony to the Bronx for World of Darkness, so regional location doesn't mean a zoo will automatically receive those animals closest to it.

Both Binturongs are still alive, although Mitzie did just turn 20 earlier this month. The male Jaye, is only 10 years old.

I believe you mean Yellow-Tailed Cribo, which is a type of non-venomous colubrid

Please make sure that you post only verified news e.g. by staff or social media on this thread, as this is not a speculation thread :)
