Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Cincinnati Zoo News 2025

Upcoming Manatee release:

3 manatees rehabilitated at Cincinnati Zoo to return to native waters

The three orphaned manatees, Vora, Lilypad and Orchid, were rescued last year and lived at the Cincinnati Zoo for about a year for rehabilitation.

The manatees will be leaving the Cincinnati Zoo later in September, and the zoo will then prepare to receive new manatees that need rehabilitation in November.

Today, the zoo celebrated a $60 million gift from the estate of the late Hugh Hoffman.

Of note from the press release:
Over the next five years, the Zoo will add a new immersive habitat for a herd of giraffes twice the size of the current one, a new Mexican wolf habitat, where visitors will learn about the heroic story of their recovery, and bring rhinos back to the Zoo. It also plans to create a Children’s Garden, a one-of-a-kind playscape, designed by kids, for kids. The vision goes beyond brick and mortar as the Zoo plans to expand its global Fellowship program under its new name – the Hoffman Coexistence Impact Fellowship Program in honor of Hugh’s love for traveling to learn from international communities.

I'm most interested to see what happens with the current Africa section when it loses giraffes and gains rhinos and likely more Veldt/Rhino Reserve residents.
Previous concept art shows the rhinos, and zebras taking up the old giraffe space and bongos, okapis and a “new species” (presumably red river hogs) taking up the flamingo habitat, treetops and twiga. Then, the old elephant house is set to become an exhibit for giraffes and flamingos as previously mentioned.

Was the babirusa ever signed at the Elephant Trek? I was there in mid-August. Neither the otters nor the babirusa were out, and the latter wasn't signed at that point.
