I went to the zoo this morning/afternoon and noticed a few things:
- As previously mentioned Sea Otter Coast and Black Bear Ridge are almost completely finished (if not completely finished and just waiting on the arrival of animals)
- Construction/demolition on the former White Lion habitat (Which is the future home of Mexican Grey Wolves) has started. The old board walk has been torn down and the area is being marked out.
- Siamang Point was closed due to the introduction of the male babirusa and preparations for the zoos 150th anniversary party later tonight.

I'm happy to see that, in fact, there is a babirusa!

The area is not open for public viewing yet, but as he becomes more comfortable, he’ll be out. He’s going to have his hands full sharing space with 6 crazy otters. I can’t wait to see them together."

Yesterday was the zoo’s 150 year anniversary and the zoo did a podcast with the zoo director Thane Maynard. He discusses LOTS of plans for the future for the Cincinnati Zoo in this podcast. ( I will attach the podcast from YouTube in a link) I’ve tried to highlight some of the main points he talked about. I would definitely give it a listen. It sounds like a lot of amazing changes are coming. I can’t wait for some concept art / renderings get released.
15:07 “A big dream down the way is a great big marine exhibit with walkthrough under tunnels, sea lions and polar bears. Separate, but adjacent.”
16:28 “Amour leopards, I was pushing for that where the white lions use to be.” He goes on to say the reason why they didn’t go that direction was because they would have to put a net over the entire area and that they are solitary animals. That’s why they went for Mexican wolves.
FUTURE PLANS:
16:30 He says we can expect these in the next few years and that they are already funded.
This fall 2025: Bear Ridge and Sea Otter Coast. He does not give an exact date.
Next fall (September 2026): Mexican wolves. He says they will move from where they are now. They will go where the white lions use to be. He then discusses the exhibit where the Mexican wolves are now. “We may keep something there in the short run but eventually it will become something else.”
2027: Giraffes will move to the old elephant yard at the front entrance area of the zoo. “The old elephant yard will be enlarged.” “When you walk in you will see them. 12 giraffes.”
“Hopefully by moving the giraffes out of their current yard we can reconfigure their former area in the Africa area. The hope is there is room for rhinos and we will move the bongos from the veldt.”
“And then eventually to say 2029 is too optimistic but take the veldt and perhaps there is where we could put sea lions and polar bears.” “Those are ideas.”

The Zoo announced that their Western Lowland Gorilla Gladys gave birth this morning to a baby boy Cincinnati Zoo on Instagram: "Twelve-year-old gorilla Gladys is a mom! A healthy baby boy was born on Saturday, September 20, at 8:32 a.m. Mom and baby are doing well. This is Gladys’ first baby and the 51st gorilla born at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. Mom and baby are bonding behind the scenes. The keeper team is discussing names and looking for suggestions from the public. Those can be submitted on the Zoo’s social media channels."
Zebras have been moved next door to the old black rhino yards - both of which were recently combined to give the zebras even more space.

Its kind of hard to explain but its basically old fashioned hoofstock grottos with concrete barriers with the actual enclosure being sunk in below the actual guest path
