Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden Cincinnati Zoo News 2025

Western lowland gorilla infant named:

From socials:

The primate team has selected "Mboka Jo." Mboka means community/village in Lingala, one of the languages spoken in the region where western lowland gorillas live. This is a nod to all the people who came together to help Gladys when she was a baby, supported her when she had a broken arm last year, and throughout her pregnancy.

The team added the middle name "Jo" to honor Gladys' foster father & silverback, Jomo.

Please note, the sea otter exhibit will still be empty. I heard from a zoo volunteer that no sea otters have arrived at the zoo yet.
also you can't get close to bears via the glass viewing area since it's blocked off and only one viewing area is open

Hosen and kavi the white handed gibbons are back in jungle trails for the winter this time they are in the Asia building

Information via myself on my visit last week

The Cincinnati Zoo's website now lists southern sea otters:

Southern Sea Otter - Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden

Anyone know if they're on display yet?

Interesting that it's the southern subspecies and thus probably rescued pups from Monterey that couldn't be rehabilitated, or transfers from other facilities that want to decrease their load a bit. The Alaska SeaLife Center currently has two rescued northern sea otter pups under their care from this summer, but it's not clear where they'll end up.

Some couple of things I noticed while on my visit today:
-The Thick Billed Parrot exhibit now has a tawny frogmouth in the Wings of the World
- The old tawny frogmouth exhibit now houses a bali mynah in the Wings of The World
- I was told by a keeper/volunteer that the zoo has a pair of Sea Otters that have been selected for months now (from the Aquarium of The Pacific in Long Beach). I was also told the reason for the long wait for the exhibit is they are having issues with the salt water filtration system and flow of tye salt water
