Auckland elephant house is set up for three female asian elephants...

At the moment they have two...

Guess it would be cruel to split these two up though...

bit far for them i think, best to keep them in the country what about putting all the old girls together, Aust ZOo maybe

That would be a good idea Ben, all are past breeding age now, plus there is a lot of room for more

if these elephants do end up in a zoo probably far better WPZ.......as Birma is managed by protected contact and with Arna a potential risk they could be managed well together. also, given that they are all past breeding age the proximity of the African Elephants reduces the risk of herpes transmission.
on the other hand, sending Arna and Gigi to Australia Zoo could present issues with handling.

Wake UP!!

Wake up Ara - see what Glyn has to say about how the "valuable" elephants in this country were treated! They are going to Western Plains Zoo - thank God!!!

Huh?
I don't get you Jaywa?

What did I say that's got you so steamed? (I'm all FOR Arna and Gigi going to Western Plains zoo. Should have happened years ago.)

hi Zoo_Boy,
do you know if they have meet burma yet? becuase even though it says they are in an area away from other elephants the image on the second link you sent clearly shows an elephant, im assuming burma walking past the fence behind the girls and i would be interested to know how the three reacted to each other

Torie, the enclosure behind them appears to be tht of the africans. could be wrong but from memory tht looks like Burma's enclosure, Burma may be in where heman was kept.

ok cool thanks having never been to dubbo im not sure how its set up i only thought it was odd that in an article that mentions the elephant being isolated there is a photo of the elephants so close to the africans

Footage of arna and gigi has been shown on our local news and therefore will probably appear on the national news. there is only a single fence separating the two girls from Burma and they have met and touched eachother over this fence. they seem to like their enclosure.

One of the new girls looked as though she may have fully submergered herself in the mud and water! Great New Life!

C'mon Jaywa, I'm still waiting.

If you're gonna abuse me at least have the decency to tell me why!
