Those are interesting ideas. I'm sure they could put together a really interesting aquarium in a decently large space as long as it was only an aquarium but Tiger Valley said that's not the overall goal it would seem. Indoor play area I think would be the least desirable outcome. It is so far away from everything, unless they wanted to rent it out for birthdays or something I just don't see how it would work and it wouldn't seem to keep with the mission. Quarantine area might have more merit.
 
The only problem is the Greater Cleveland Aquarium is somewhat close and that would be competition if it's good enough.
 
Mm indoor play area sounds dandy for families with children. Though to many zoo's are spending to much money building and catering to humans and neglecting the needs of the very animals they house! For all our information, knowledge, very sad situation to many outdoor exhibits animals bake in the sun cause shade isn't factored into exhibit designs. Any wonder why animals remain hidden in their exhibits? I'm all for importance of play and development of one discovering wildlife/animals, but is it possible to see some serious innovation on exhibit design that animals could benefit from?
 
I don't think the CMZ wants to compete with the GCA. The aquarium is a neat experience in Cleveland but it is a far cry from any of the larger ones in Cincinnati, Chicago, or half a dozen others. But there are forces that want the attraction to be there so its there. The Aquarium's greatest asset is its location, it is near downtown and several other attractions. Its greatest detraction is the cost, cost to park and cost of admission. At the CMZ there is no cost for parking and its a few dollars cheaper. Not to mention you get anywhere between 3 and 4 hours of entertainment at the CMZ compared to maybe max an hour and a half at the GCA. It's really not much of a comparison. If the Zoo built a fantastic aquarium exhibit then I think it would spell doom for the Greater Cleveland Aquarium but also upset a group of high profile donors and other higher ups that wanted an aquarium in downtown Cleveland. Just not worth the fight in my opinion.

I agree with you. I would also argue that the zoo has seen to the needs of families, putting in a carousel, new play area and 4d theater in the last 5 years. Going even further, the improvements to several exhibits have made them much more family friendly. The Tiger Passage makes it much more fun and more interesting to see and learn, the new giraffe boardwalk adds in a feeding element and literally brings them up close and personal. I think the zoo is slowly getting to renovating its outdated exhibits which should provide more of the same results.
 
Honestly they could use some undeveloped land to give new homes to the bears. Their grottos are sad I can't tell you how many times I've been there and watch it continuously push itself of the wall. They pace and it's sad.
 
Australia gift shop is now First Aid and Lost & Found. Elephant gift shop is now a Dippin Dots stand. Deckwall up/down the hill is closed.

I think this will happen. I would think their list of exhibits that need attention are the bears, the lions, a little bit of work to African Savannah (which may or may not happen with this cheetah move) gorillas and other primates at the PAC and much of their other Northern Trek exhibits (again could be addressed with the Asian Highlands exhibit too)

Basically what we are all tryna say is everything but Tiger Passage, Elephant Crossing, and Australia needs a make over XD
 
I think they had a priority list that had kept them from doing much with the traditional exhibits and now they are finally in a position to start to fix them up.
 
I've always loved the deck walk up the hill side to the CPA building. What a treasure it was to walk among the trees! A true treasure. Heaven forbit humans need exercise. Hoping that maybe someone out there in la la land wakes up to realize the very treasure the deck walk is! GEE we got fairies on tv, and all kinds of fanasties every hour of our lives, the deck walk was the REAL DEAL elevating one's prespection of the forest amongest those trees! O! metroparks where art thee?

Every time I’ve visited the zoo (probably 10-15 times), the deckwalk is closed. I’ve never gotten to see it. Is there any space for exhibits in that area?

You could possiblely sandwich bird exhibits, and or even small primate enclosures among the openings of the deck walk. It is kind of an awkward area elevation wise. The deck walk has and will always be the coolest thing the zoo did that benefited the public long trek from the zoo above.
 
I enjoy the deckwalk, its the best way to go up to the PAC. I think it would be challenging to put small exhibits up along it. The terrain is difficult to build on. The upkeep on the small exhibits would be tough too. I wish they could spruce it up a little though, informative plaques about the zoo's history? Or the animals they have in their collection? Or challenges facing wildlife? Just spitballing.
