Had a pretty long visit on Sunday, heres a few things I can updated on that I saw;
Ursula, the bald eagle, still was missing from her exhibit in the lodge.
The Red Crowned Cranes appear to be nesting. I did not see the one bird move the entire day, and the Tufted Deer were not on exhibit with them so maybe they're already sitting on eggs?
I was my first time seeing Penguin Shores and it was so cringe worthy I didn't even try to get any shots of the birds because they seemed so miserable. Its basically a tiny mall window display they put penguins in with no natural light and barely any room to swim or even move around. I understand its only for the summer but I really wish they had just put money into making an actual exhibit, not this horrible temporary thing then eventually acquire their own penguins. I would really like them to renovated the the Egyptian goose pond into a penguin exhibit. I like the idea of having African penguins and flamingos exhibits complimenting each other in the entrance of the zoo.
The new giraffe deck seems to be finished structurally but it was still blocked off. Interestingly it seems to have a pond area in the center of it which was makes me think the storks may be put in that area when it is finished. The giraffes were still contained to their side paddock. I uploaded pictures of the deck to the gallery.
I haven't been to the zoo in awhile, but have the black-footed cats been off exhibit or is that something new? Their former exhibit was occupied by pottos.
The new snow leopard was outside and seemed to still be adjusting to the exhibit. I think it was the new one year old male from Winnipeg.
One of the Red Pandas strangely has its tail completely shaved. Does anyone know if it was for a medical reason?
The cheetah viewing deck is still blocked off.
