I’m really hoping that there’s a phase 2 so that the sloth bears can get a new exhibit. Last time I was there it was flipping off of the walls, and since it’s home is the same area as the Asian Highlands animals, it’s only fair they get an exhibit too.
What animals are going in Asian Highlands?
Snow leopard, Amur leopard, red panda, and takin. All but the takin are already exhibited at the zoo.
I’m sure they would, like, love to, but it’s not the most practical of suggestions is it?Like, Golden Snub-Nosed Monkeys.
if you think pandas are hard to get, these are nearly impossible. LA tried twice and didn’t succeed either time.Don’t they, live, in like, mountainous forests? Isnt that pretty high?
We had them briefly at the Cincinnati Zoo in the early 90s on loan from China. Very cool indeed.if you think pandas are hard to get, these are nearly impossible. LA tried twice and didn’t succeed either time.
Nice! I remember reading that somewhere! We had them briefly at the Cincinnati Zoo in the early 90s on loan from China. Very cool indeed.
this is just phase one they’re filling in the back area with new Asian exhibits. Last year they got a new tiger exhibit.So....Omaha Zoo is also planning an Asian Highlands, and it’s also a bit more interesting, its planned to open this month.

No I know that’s there first priorities. I meant with the tiger passage.Wilderness Trek is not going all Asian if that is what you meant. There are presently no more plans to make any more changes to Wilderness Trek. Moving animals off the hill has become a theme. A new cheetah exhibit, a large primate area, and possibly a modular aquarium are in the current timeline. No other plans have been discussed with the Metroparks board.
