Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Cleveland Metroparks Zoo News, 2023

The zoo will be acquiring a new tree kangaroo named Modi in the near future! They are almost 2 years old. I don’t know the gender, but it sounds like a girl.

Does anyone know how many individuals they will have now? According the population thread they will have 4, but mostly likely at-least 1 individual has passed?

The zoo has announced the birth of 2 Amur tigers! Born to 2nd time parents Zoya and Hector. Zoya is showing the signs of being a great mother!

This is something I surely wasn’t expecting since I believe that Anya is still here.
Incredible news! I was wondering where Zoya was last time I was at the zoo since I haven't seen her for the last few visits. Also I haven't seen Anya for a while, so she may have moved already

I will try to ask a volunteer or a worker tomorrow about Anya. I did see all 3 of them out a few months ago, and I heard that Anya hadn’t moved because something about she has certain medication for her seizures. It was something along those lines.

Went to the zoo today, and here’s what was different.

The tiger had access to all 4 habitats which I have never seen. I couldn’t see its face so I don’t know if it was Hector or Anya.
V the black bear was out today.
Wolf lodge was open but you can’t access the turtle and trout habitats.
The zoo has a new Giant Pacific Octopus.
Rat Kangaroo inside the koala building was off exhibit.
1 of the 4 small primate exhibits inside the rainforest said the animals were off exhibit.
Ocelot was out today.
The Leaf Cutter Ant exhibit was closed still and about half of the small habitats around it with insects were empty.
Prehensile Tailed Porcupine was on exhibit.

I don't think I've ever seen the Rat Kangaroo out. Also nice to hear the animals are coming back to the Upper Forest.

Took a shorter than usual visit to Cleveland today. Here's what I saw-
-Wilderness Trek was more alive than I've seen in a while. Given its 36°
- Only saw three Elephants
- Rat Kangaroo is now signed as off exhibit
- V the Black Bear was out. Didn't see Onion the Seal
- The Koala Joey was visible
- Hector was the only Tiger out. I asked a volunteer if Anya has left and they said they haven't seen her lately but that she could just be living in the holding area
- Skipped The RainForest and PCA due to time

I’m still surprised that the zoo hasn’t said anything about Modi the tree kangaroo yet. It has been 3 weeks since she have arrived. I’m assuming an announcement will be happening soon about the arrival.

Just left Cleveland. Here's what was new/worth reporting-

Main Zoo

  • Seal and Sea Lion Exhibit was closed for cleaning
  • American Black and Andean Bears off exhibit
RainForest
  • Upper level is now open (I didn't know it was closed)
  • Two reptile exhibits at the start of the lower Forest were empty.
  • Burmese Python was off exhibit
  • Both Gharials are back (Haven't seen both since July)
  • Leafcutter Ants and the entire insect wall is now tarped off and under construction.
  • Misters around the waterfall at the entrance have been fixed.
  • All of the animals have returned to the Upper Forest

I guess they will wait for quarantaine to be completed and the formal introductions to intended / prospective partner to have been successful.
