Cleveland Metroparks Zoo Cleveland Metroparks Zoo News 2024

Also today, most of the leopard signage in Asian Highlands was for Amur, with the only signage for the Snow being in the exhibit across from the Takin exhibit. So I don't know if something happened to the SL or if they're just rotating the Amur more.

He is quite old. But considering he’s the only Snow Leopard, I feel the zoo would have made an announcement if something bad had happened to him.

Decided to take advantage of the 60° sunny day before to see if the Cubs were more active, since it was colder and cloudy on Tuesday. They were and I got plenty of photos.

There was actually a queue developing outside Tiger Passage and the employees were keeping the line moving. Entrsnce was by the bridge and exit was in Wilderness Trek. This was only at noon and by 1 it had cleared up.

Hector was very unhappy that the Cubs were receiving more attention than him and he was yelling alot.

This is from an employee in RF- Primate Forest could start road rerouting for the new entrance in the summer/fall. That will likely run until early 2025 then groundbreaking on the entrance area for Primates. That means any RainForest closure will be 2025+

Also as of the most recent plans, Gorillas AND Orangs will have outside access.

Was at the zoo today
-Onion the Harbor Seal was out and swimming
-V the Black Bear was a no show
-Sombra the Snow Leopard was out
-Mom and Bulu were very active in Gumleaf Hideout
-Ring-Tailed Lemurs were signed but the Mongoose Lemurs had access to their habitat
-Tufted Deer were no shows
-Zoya and her cubs were having a great time playing in the mud

V has been a no show the last few times I've been, so I'm starting to think she might have passed away. I forgot to mention but Sombra was out yesterday, but trying to stay hidden in the tunnel above AH. I saw the Ring Tails on Tuesday, but the photos I took yesterday don't have them.

If V did pass away I feel like the zoo would have took down the signs for black bears. I also went on a stretch for about 9 months where I didn’t see her. So,who knows?

My friend did a short visit to the zoo and RainForest today. V was a no show but Onion and the Snow Leopard were out. In the RF, neither the rain storm effect or the deforestation diorama (the display with the countdown by the Langurs) were working. On a positive, Cinnamon the Burmese Python was out (She's been a no show my last few visits)

Has anyone managed to catch a "show" in the Sarah Allison Steffee Center? We've only caught one check-up and them cleaning up before, and I think we've only seen other people inside once. Which is a shame, I love the building and wish they'd announce a schedule.

Nothing planned but a couple months ago I saw them doing a procedure on I think a Stork of some kind

Shame I have to work tomorrow, and it's President's Day so schools in Cleveland are out (Admission is free for Cuyahoga County residents on Mondays). Hope it's nice out!

If I didn't have work too I'd go get one. Do we have a scan of the back of the cards, or are they same on both sides?

Just left the zoo. Here’s what was new/worth reporting:
  • V the Black Bear no showed.
  • Yagga Tree was open but none of the show effects were turned on. Wooly Bill's pond was drained so I got a picture of him.
  • There's new climbing structures in the outdoor exhibits at PC&A.
  • Ring Tail Lemurs are in only one exhibit in PCA
  • One of the Black Howler Monkey exhibits on the top level of primates was covered in paper.
  • Tiger cubs spent most of their time hiding in the shade. Don’t blame them in the slightest since it was pretty hot.
  • It has been confirmed by an employee (Not a volunteer) Anya the Amur Tiger left the zoo when the Cubs were born. She now lives in Florida, but the employee didn't know exactly where

I don’t think there are any zoos in Florida that have Amur’s. Unless she goes to a facility that will be a new Amur holder, it seems like it’s a private facility.

From the zoo's Facebook- a Voodoo Lily is now blooming in The RainForest.

Meet Voodoo Lily! In addition to the well-known Corpse flower, Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is also home to a smaller cousin called the Voodoo Lily. The Voodoo Lily is related to the Corpse Flower and gives off a similarly pungent stench when in bloom but is much smaller and easier to grow. Voodoo Lilies are generally 3-5 feet tall and only bloom once a year or every few years. This flower is about 63 inches tall and has grown an average of 2.5 inches per day! Other common names include: Devil's Tongue, Elephant Yam, Konjac, and Snake Palm. Catch a glimpse (or a whiff) of the blooming Lily in The RainForest before it’s too late!
