Are there any new or returning species expected in the Primate Forest/RainForest renovation? I've tried to do a bit of research but most of what I found emphasized the improved orangutan and gorilla holding, and a passing nod to "crocodilians", but it's not clear to me what else is intended to be in the exhibit when complete.

The animals the zoo has confirmed are returning-
  • Bornean Orangutan (Will still have access to the dome exhibit)
  • Gharial
  • Burmese Python
  • Capybara
  • Binturong
  • Asian Small Clawed Otter.
Moving in -
  • Gorilla
  • Aldabra tortoises

There was a news outlet that also stated the bats were returning, hopefully the zoo's confirmed that's the case as well!

Shame about the insect collection being axed last I heard given so many interpretive possibilities about biodiversity.

Thanks. I had a vague memory of you mentioning the gharial previously so I thought so (I would hope they stick around as Cleveland seems to be the only midwest holder!) but I hadn't known about the other mammals. Very cool the orangutan will have new space but also retain access to their former habitat.

Notes from today's visit:
  • Mueller gibbons have moved to the 2nd largest exhibit on the top row of PC&A. Their exhibit in Aquatics is under construction.
  • Black howler monkeys have moved to the primate exhibit in the aquatics hallway.
  • Golden lion tamarins are signed as off exhibit in both of their exhibits.
  • None of the rarer animals (Black bear, harbor seal, Ruskin the red panda, female mangabey) were outside.
  • There are 2 new food trucks at the base of the giraffe hill.
  • Saw the same groundhog in the rhino exhibit from last time.
  • Flemish giant rabbit exhibit is still closed in Australian Adventure. None of the barn animals were out either.

First, a bit of a personal update - I now work at Cleveland in the photo safari at the front entrance.

  • Spur winged geese are now in the former leopard exhibit in Africa. The exhibit is still signed for red pandas, however.
  • I saw the female golden belly mangabey today so I can confirm she's still alive.
  • Saw one of the Cheetahs having surgery on their foot in the vet center.
  • Wilderness Grill is now “Crunch Loaded Nachos”
  • V the black bear was on exhibit and actually moving around the exhibit today.
  • Grizzly bears were a no show.
  • Heard from an employee doing landscaping around the exhibit that the bison moat may be filled in soon.
