He's coming from Knuthenborg zoo in denmark. Not sure of his name though :D

I agree easytigger but he seems to be in allright health and he's not going to last that much longer anyway he is 21 so 2 years at the maximum.I dont mind the idea of Euthanasia due to bad health but im not too keen on Euthanasia just so new blood can arrive to the zoo sooner.

OK, thanks. That means the Knuthenborg Zoo has off-loaded its second wild-caught non-breeding bull (not breeding as in non-dominant, not as in not able to).

New male giraffe has not yet arrived but I'l keep you posted :)

Also the male rhino is due to arrive later today if all has gone well in denmark.

If he's coming by road won't he have already left? Or are they bringing him over by plane?

Press statement regarding loss of Leoni the Lioness:

Colchester Zoo saddened by the loss of Leoni the Lioness - 02-Nov-09
PRESS RELEASE

Colchester Zoo saddened by the loss of Leoni the Lioness

Colchester Zoo is very sorry to announce the death of Leoni our lioness. Leoni had been unwell for a couple of days and despite veterinary treatment she sadly died on the 29th October. A post mortem revealed that a growth around one of her valves lead to heart failure and death.

Leoni arrived at Colchester zoo back in June 2005, where she came from Blair Drummond Safari Park in Scotland. She soon made friends with our male lion, Subu who was already a resident here.

Zoological Director, Anthony Tropeano has commented that “Leoni will be greatly missed by everyone at the zoo”.

Giraffes

has the new male giraffe arrived yet? If not when is he due as I thought it was this week just gone?

There was no new male Giraffe yesterday(Monday)

I am a bit confused about the Giraffes they currently have:confused: as I identified the three males from the 'identity' board just inside the building. It says that 'Koife' is the one with no tail tassle yet he clearly has the most typical 'Reticulated' markings of all of them, more so than 'Edmund' who was born in the Whipsnade(pure Reticulated) group- or the two new small 'pure' females.
Isn't he the one on the postcard too?

Pertinax: had the new Male Rhino arrived?

Also there is a piece on the colchester website about Katavi being off show whilst she is recieving veterinary treatment. Anyone know what is wrong with her/ why this is?

Katavi is a handreared female cheetah. She was born at Colchester in June 2008. The male rhino was due to arrive on Sunday evening/afternoon.

I only saw one female(the mother?) Cheetah on show.

Regarding the male rhino- it could have arrived but not being a 'regular' I wouldn't know where to look for it in that maze of indoor stalls. There was no sign of a crate or anything though.

Any update on the new giraffe front? Has the baby pygmy hippo been born yet? Also has anyone got confirmation that the male rhino has arrived?

Pymy Hippo not yet born but hopefully there will be a new arrival by the end of the week.

As for the male giraffe he is due to arrive soon as well around mid november, i think.
