That is an area of the zoo i hope they ear-mark for improvement over the next few years as it is such wasted space.
where are the Buffy headed Capuchin located at the moment??
Originally they were going to create a new walkthrough enclosure once the bears moved into there new home, wonder why the change?
Will we be able to see the bears between jan-easter???
The Buffy headed Capuchins are located down near area located near the Sea-lions. In the old Bear enclosures.
I think it was either they didn't get planning permission or the cost of the project was too much in a recession.
From what i gather from the website they will be on-show but will ask when i next visit the zoo.

Will be interesting to see after they have expanded the chimpanzees exhibit what the next big project will be. Most of the zoo now is newish and not much needs replacing really. Also not much space for any new developments.
Well on their "to do list" is refubishing the old lion tailed macaque enclosure for François' langur's to move into, I guess this will have to be done before the Chimp exhibit can be done as they are currently housed in their i believe.
Did Belfast's second baby saki die?

No Belfast still have 2 young Saki,Colchesters died 12 days after the birth of the second one born at Belfast!

Visited today. Here are some of the things I noted:
- The aquarium in Kingdom of the Wild now has at least four species- African moony fish, lionfish, a clown triggerfish and a latticed soldierfish.
- Managed to see most of the current zoo babies- Komodo dragon, spotted hyaena, red panda and pileated gibbon
- The sun bear enclosure continues to progress- the main structure of the lower indoor viewing area now seems largely done with the windows still to be fitted
- The Kokopelli activity centre (next to Koi Niwa) has been demolished and a new building seems to be being built in its place
- Golden frogs are labelled at Kingdom of the Wild but none were visible
- The two adult red-backed bearded sakis were outside together with no sign of a baby- the indoor area has been mostly obscured with plants
- The warty pigs and spotted deer were all mixed in their enclosure today; the spotted deer stag has now got a new set of antlers in velvet

In addition to DR150's notes, my observations from today
- Sun Bear indoor area pretty much complete, climbing structure in progress
- African Hunting Dog female appears very round and her belly seemed to be moving - I hope I'm not being too optimistic, but I'd love to see some breeding success with them
- Epesi was separated from Lilli and Isha. When I visited last Sunday Epesi was behaving quite aggressively, so can only assume that that's why.
- I still think that the saki baby is being hand reared, as the box I mentioned before was still in the offshow area.
I think that's everything new that I can think of.

Storm damage to zoo from CZ website
Colchester Zoo has reopened after the storms on Monday 28th October. The Orangutans do remain off show after damage to their electronic roof.
The gale force winds caused damage throughout the park including tearing off part of an electronic roof at the Orangutan Forest and bringing down over 12 trees; some of which caused damage to enclosures and catering outlets

Certainly was a little blowy
Few complaints on the zoo's facebook about their "Chamber of Nightmare's" shriek week attraction...as a father myself i don't see how anything named that would be appropriate for children and it is clearly stated it is not for children...perhaps again it is the public's perception that zoo's are for families with young children??
i hope they clean the orangutan enclosure up because i have a keeper shadowing experience on Sunday with them.
I went today and the orang area is still closed.
For a wet October day, the zoo was packed, the car park was more than 3/4 full when we got there at 1030 & they were queuing out the doors when we left at 430. They must have lost well over 100k for closing monday & cancelling that nights late opening, a shame. I think it's great they were due to open until 9pm 5 nights this week with no extra charge , like some!
Highlight for me was a very active baby hyena, closely followed by the baby gibbon and the most active i have ever seen the komodo dragons.

The dragons were the same on Sunday - I have a video of Telu which I can upload once I put it on the computer if anyone wants to see just how active they were - he couldn't sit still! Does anyone know if they had plans to hatch more than the current two youngsters?

I'm afraid i don't have any good news on the sakis, the pair were together eating inside, no sign of the baby.
I saw 2 hunting dogs outside, which only appeared when a keeper walked down between the enclosures.
