This year the zoo will open a butterfly walk through and will start work on the outdoor refurbishment for the chimps and later on in the year they will revamp the indoor housing.

this year the zoo plans to have Amur leopard cubs and as previously stated swap their male giraffe.

Has work on the male Amur leopard enclosure finished yet?

Is there any pure Reticulated male in the bachelor groups at e.g. YWP or Cotswold that they could do a swap with to save a fresh import?

YWP have two (?) current pure bred Reticulated bulls. One is the former ZSL Whipsnade calf, 'Tengo/Jambo' (I forgot! :D) and the other is from Copenhagen ('Palle') and has been at YWP since they got their first Giraffes.

If the SB keeper approved exchanging for one of those, I wonder which it would be. The Copenhagen one is older so would be more suitable probably. I think this one may be the brother(?) of the ill-fated 'Marius'. On the other hand Colchester could still breed from the one they have, just not have him out in the paddock though. I noticed it was seperated on my recent visit but did not know the reason.

Any PARTICULAR reason why he is more or less on the way out?

Went for a very cold one-hour visit this morning. These are my observations:

- One of the spotted hyenas was separated from the rest of the pack.
- The Inca Trails penguin enclosure was completely empty - it seems the entire group has been moved into Penguin Shores.
- There are now two Victoria crowned pigeons in the old rufous hornbill aviary in Wilds of Asia, and could only see one opposite Penguin Shores.
- The male reticulated giraffe remains separated from the two females.
- The kune-kune pigs' outdoor enclosure is being completely redeveloped - while this is happening the pigs are being walked from their indoor area to the nearby horse stall.
- Several of the viewing windows for the wolves have been boarded up, and the indoor viewing area was closed.
- Only three Turkish spiny mice were now visible - compared to early last year when there were easily thirty or forty.
- The empty exhibit in the 'Sensation Station' is being developed and will soon house new four-toed hedgehogs.

Went again for a visit today, and only noted a couple of new things:

- The sea lion tunnel is now closed for refurbishments
- The coral reef aquarium in Orangutan Forest has now had a six-lined wrasse and two blue-cheeked gobies added
- It appears as if the green-and-black poison-dart frogs have moved out of the enclosure in Worlds Apart, leaving only the yellow-banded poison-dart and Trinidad stream frogs

Just to let you all know I have one the lion competition at colchester zoo and i will be doing this experience on Sunday if anyone wants me to ask any questions about the lions.

On my first visit to Colchester last weekend I saw signs in Chimpworld saying that during 2014 their outside space would be doubled by "knocking though" into the Francois' Langur enclosure. The langur were still in residence and I wondered if anyone knows when this is going to happen?

Incidentally, I really liked Colchester, although as people have said elsewhere on this site it is somehow different in feel to any other zoo in the UK.
