Cologne Zoo Cologne Zoo News

Recently, the new annual report for 2024 of the zoo got published on the zoo's website.
Some interesting things include:
- The Rainforest House will house Komodo Dragons when it reopens.
- The new exhibit for Tree Kangaroos, Pademelons and apperently Rock Wallabies will also feature an enclosure for Asian Small-Clawed Otters.
- The zoo expects a new pair of Coquerel's Sifakas in early 2025 (I know were already in the middle of the year).

will the rock wallaby be mixed with the tree kangaroo? And will the sifaka be a new import from the states?

The Rock wallaby was only mentioned in an interview with the zoo director that was published by the 'Kölnische Rundschau' on the 24th of March. I assume that they will be mixed with the Tree Kangaroos and Dusky Pademelons. I don't know if the Sifakas will be imported from the US, but I think its pretty likely. The annual report only mentiones that Cologne zoo expects a new pair in early 2025.

I don't find the annual report, can you send the link?

The Masterplan 2030 (from 2020) lists Clouded Leopards and Binturongs as future species, although the Masterplan is I think also partially not up to date anymore.
Given recent developments on the European zoo front, I do think this is still rather current and relevant. Zoo Koeln has always stayed steadfast upon its long term and future vision plans, including its Masterplan.

Of course, I just meant that the masterplan is getting converted differently (e.g. the new savannah) and that many projects that should have already completed haven‘t even started to be planned (e.g. Jaguar exhibit).
