The new Giant Anteater and Pudu mixed enclosure was opened today. Built to house 2:2 Anteater (two pairs) and 0:0:3 Pudu it currently houses, a single female Anteater from Dortmund and 1:1 Pudu. In the coming weeks Koln will recieve a male Anteater from Amsterdam and an additional female from Halle in the near future to form the first half of the second pair.

Another anteater female with the name "Dolores" was born in June 2011 in Halle Zoo, and will come in the next few days with us to the Rhine. The male anteater "Yavi" also comes a little later from the Artis Zoo, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The Puduweibchen "Bonita" holds the record among current age Südpudus in the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) at age 16. She was born last year, despite their age, a healthy young animal, which we have delivered to the zoo Apenheul. The Pudubock "Amos" is also from the Dortmund Zoo. He is only 3 years old and has been before the 2nd Age reached its first offspring conceived. We hope that it will produce another cub with "Bonita" is.

If it is him then it is indeed a terrible loss. Although his blood line is not exactly that genetic he certainly did make an impact at Cologne with their female. He only arrived in early (?) 2011 and bred with her several months later. His sister 'Sayan' at YWP has not been recommended to breed.
Thoughts are with the keeper's family at this time
Agreed a terrible tragedy for the zoo, thoughts to those involved.

I was thinking about going to koln next week specificly to see the ratels. Is the entire zoo open or is the area with the tigers closed of
are they waiting for the two old ratels do die and then breed with the 5 year old female or are they searching for a breeding male right now. As the enclosures has two parts.
