Reticulated Giraffe, Nyiri gave birth to a female calf on 30th December. She's been named, Baridi (meaning frost)
 
Some intresting births and hatchlings during the first 2 months of 2015 :
2 Onagers
2 Crowned lapwings
1 White-faced saki
1 Red-capped fruit-pigeon
1 Purple-breasted fruit-pigeon
 
Some intresting hatchlings during March 2015 :
2 Chestnut-backed ground thrush
2 White-browed coucal
1 Wonga pigeon
 
0.2 Amur Tigers have been exported to Zooparque Itatiba in Brazil. The sisters were the result of an accidental mating between a mother and son during 2013 (he successfully mated with her aged 17 months!) so were not able to breed within the EEP.

There older sister (from the previous litter) also left for Santo Inaco, Portugal recently

In other news - a male Reticulated Giraffe was born 13th May

Hi guys. I plan a zoo trip in Germany and (mainly) the Netherlands, and i want to known a few things for the parks.

How much time it's necessary for to see all the Köln zoo (mainly the outdoor exhibits)?
And Gelsenkirchen and Duisburg?

Cologne should be a full day, but you could likely do it in less if needs be, as that included a few sit downs and double backs. We did Duisburg 9am-3pm and doubled it up with Krefeld. Duisburg can be don't much quicker, as we did the dolphin show (my other half had never seen a dolphin show and was curious. Likewise she'd never seen any cetacean at all). It also included the fact we didn't see the Orinoco river dolphin straight away, so we lingered at the zoo until it put in an appearance. I would say 9-12 is enough to get around quickly. Don't know about ZOOM as haven't done that one yet.
 
ZOOM needs about 5 hours to see it properly and make a return visit to one of the theme worlds (which are annoyingly 3 seperate loops without shortcuts....). For Cologne I really would advise a full day, especially when one visits the first time and be sure to go to the terrarium first, because that closes slightly earlier then the rest of the zoo...
 
Thank you very much! (To both) Just another question: I read that Duisburg closed to 5:30 PM but you can remaining inside "until dusk" So, how long it's in summer?

Dusk should be around 9 pm, so that leaves a lot of time, though many animals will be inside and buildings closed....
 
The Red Howler group have been busy again - 1.0 born 2nd August (now named Benito)
 
If anyone has an up to date photo of Kindu (the last male bonobo of the group here) I would much appreciate it :)
