Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Columbus zoo 2010

Thank you Ituri for correcting me. It looks like its:
May 6:Polar Frontier(Columbus Zoo)
May 7:Expedition Madagascar(Henry Doorly Zoo)
May 8:Great Bear Wilderness(Brookfield Zoo)

Looks really really good. I would suspect this will be the #2 polar bear exhibit in the country.

Anyone been to the 'frontier yet? I wanted to go this weekend but gosh darn it's chilly in OH so we stayed close to home!!!

I'll be heading up the weekend before Memorial Day if no one has been there yet.

Was at the zoo today and saw a baby Markhor - since I hadn't heard about a Markhor birth, I stopped by information on my way out and after a few phone calls, found out that there were two born earlier today! Awaiting the names . . .

It is too cold to watch polar bears???

(Of course, that is easy for me to say, since I can watch polar bears in Tucson while wearing shorts and eating a root beer float :D).

I'm mostly likely going to be visiting the Columbus Zoo for the first time sometime in early August. I've been reading reviews, which are mostly positive, but there are some negative things I was curious about. The main thing which worried me was people not seeing a lot of animals. With such naturalistic exhibits, I'm sure they have hiding spots. A lot of recent reviews stated this problems. For you frequent zoo visitors, is this a problem you've encountered? Also going in the summer, but I plan to go on a Monday, would this be a really busy time? I know it's the summer, but a weekday I thought it work for my advantage. If anyone could share your insights on the zoo, I would appreciate! The Polar exhibit looks stunning and I'd love to see manatees again!

blospz, I have been to Columbus twice and saw many animals easily! Do not count on weekdays in August being less crowded than weekends however.

blospz, I agree with geomorph: going on a weekday isn't going to save you on this one.

I've been ~10 times now and honestly, most of the animals I haven't seen have been because it was too crowded or I gave up on bothering, not the animals themselves. Last summer when we went, I gave up on viewing the whole entire Asia Quest area after waiting for almost an hour to get around the line to see the baby elephant, the food services line conveniently right next to it and to get into the indoor exhibit. For me, too many people is just too much when it's that bad. Best of luck, I've never been much a fan of the zoo but look forward to hearing another opinion on it!!!!

Headed out to Columbus today; a few words on Polar Bear Frontier. Well one word is enough: eh.

I couldn't get any photos (people...people...people + heat) but the polar bear part really failed in my mind. Two smaller areas for the bears and an underground viewing that looked way better in videos. I will give them a lot of credit that there is GRASS and LAND in the exhibit as opposed to fake rock but...they're on the smallish side. I'm hoping heading again next weekend will give me a different view.

The brown bears, however, look great. Three viewing areas from three different angles of the exhibit, a nice pool with fresh fish (though I am told Brutus is a poor fisher :P) and real land. Nice upgrade for the bears.

The foxes, well....smaller chicken wire kind of exhibit. Poor lighting in the early morning so I can't really judge but I did expect more.

Anyone else have thoughts on it? I'll be sure to send photos next week!

Oh that's sad to hear! It looked incredible in the photos! Well I'm use to the Buffalo Zoo so I'm sure its definitely an upgrade! Yeah I would like to hear others thoughts on it too.
