I sure hope they do, otherwise this renovation will be a strict downgrade. They did say that the “first phase” will have the bears, wolves, otters etc, but I’m not sure if that means the North America renovation will be multiple phases or that North America is phase 1 for the master plan with the bonobos as phase 2.
If this master plan had more phases, what other exhibits would need renovation/expansion?

I think I heard something about the outdoor gorilla habitat. Maybe the penguin habitat? It’s fine but not “wow!”, you know?
I think Columbus has a nice thing going on right now, so I’m worried that any future renovations are going to ruin that.
(I’m afraid of another Adventure Cove happening…)

Maybe they could renovate Adventure Cove.

Is the North America section still open and do we know for how long? Have anything besides bison been removed entirely? I know the article says groundbreaking will be in fall.

Columbus/Cincinnati (both in one trip) is on the list for a possible summer trip this year and I might try to push for it further if I know there is a limit on this exhibit zone.

Since ground breaking is not until fall then the exhibits will be open through the summer, most likely. Likely many of the animals will remain at the zoo (although off show) through the renovation, depending on how long each habitat renovation is of course.

The only other species I know for sure is already gone is the pronghorn. The last individual was moved out before the bison was due to move.

Thank you for clarifying as that is a species of interest for me at Columbus.

A friend visited over the summer and I was impressed with Columbus' North America collection from the photographs. Looks like I'm a little late -- Pronghorn, wolverine and moose are some of the ones I was most interested to see. There are other chances to see all three for me thankfully.

Sounds like they just replaced the restaurant inside.

Restaurant? Do you mean the "roadhouse" area? I only have been once, did they ever serve food or was it just the decorations? Supposedly all they did was the entry "roadhouse" area of the building, but it would be nice if someone could confirm that in person.

I just hope they’ll still keep the Cougars, Beavers, Elk, Reindeer, Wolverines, and Moose
