I went online and found a Google Earth where you can measure and label anything you want around the world. So sometimes I label and measure the longest lengths and widths of animal exhibits. The website is called Wikimapia. I could only do outdoor exhibits, but not indoor exhibits and ones that were completely covered by trees (Cougar, Bobcat) The measurements are all in feet.

The website will be down for about 2 days as I am currently redoing it and fixing up alot of the features and enhancing old blog posts for the new format. It will be back by Monday at the latest. The blog will start posting again in june.

Wow, this looks incredible! Very nice work. How did you even get all that information? I love the elephant part, I was even thinking about doing measurements and birds eye view for each elephant exhibit in the U.S.. What I would recommend (not that it needs improvement) but if you want a better angle of the exhibit, go to Google Earth and use the 45 degree angle tool and snip the area that you want.

- Thank you Moebelle. I use google earth and and create shapes based on ariel photos, along with photos from zoochat to work out the layout. I then copy these onto a website (google earth shapes) that works out a size of the exhibit. There are also tools on the web you can use such as google maps area calculator but they only allow one shape at a time. I will take the 45 degree angle idea and use it as i will be rereleasing the elephants blogs with enhanced info and new photos over the next few months along with new posts for different zoos.
