Columbus Zoo and Aquarium Columbus Zoo News - 2014

That was something that was discussed in the past but is no longer the case at this point in time. The renovations being done to the black rhinoceros yards are for the black rhinoceroses. From what I've heard, beyond a general overhaul of the yards, the renovations will bring the rhinoceroses closer to the guests and allow for "Rhino Encounters" where the guests will be allowed to touch and feed the rhinoceroses. At this point, any future additions to Heart of Africa, such as a "Phase II", are nothing but discussions, but I have heard that both rhinoceroses and elephants have been brought up in these discussions.

Meerkats are confirmed but that is just a minor addition and nothing you would call phase 2.

Touching and feeding Blacks? I thought the consensus was they were too aggressive for encounters?

Back in high school when I did seasonal maintenance at the Cleveland Zoo some of us got to feed and pet several of the zoos black rhinos on multiple occasions and they were always very mild mannered gentle. So I suppose it would be unique to the individual animal.

I guess that I should have said major additions as I was aware of the meerkats. Of course, a meerkat enclosure was originally supposed to come with the initial opening of Heart of Africa, but it disappeared from the plans a couple of months ago.

A year old Wolverine is due to travel to Columbus from Calviac, France later this week

I'm taking a trip up to the zoo next week. Aside from Heart of Africa, what are some of the major changes from 2011? (My last visit)

Two Black Rhino yards are under going a major renovation.

Dinosaurs have taken over the entire Islands of Southeast Asia area.Unless you have kids with you its a total waste of time and kind of ruins the experience in that area.

Cheetah Runs are at 1030 and 230

Lion Training demo at 1230

Which individual rhino to they keep at the moment?

Should I read as in the Dino Experience that the exhibits of the S.E. Asian trail have been completely taken over by them or are S.E. Asian animals still on exhibit?

We were being sarcastic about the exhibits being taking over by them. The set up however totally ruins the theme of the area as well as creates huge crowds and chaos. In our opinion if you don't have a dedicated vacant area then don't do dinosaurs. But that's not what most zoos think.

They currently keep a female by the name of "Rosie", most definitely. The last time I was there, I do believe that "Kulinda" was still there as well, but I do not know if that is still the case.

In other news, a brown pelican named "Sir Peliken" has gone on exhibit in Manatee Coast.

We lost our semi final game and I got called off work so I will finally make my way down tomorrow. This is kind of a stupid question but how crowded is it on a Saturday?

I've been at the zoo for 7 hours now and all I have to say about the Heart of Africa is......" ". You can't say anything because it looks so perfectly natural. And yes, I do have panoramas.
