Chattanooga Zoo has a cougar exhibit viewed from the parked car of a train. Fort Worth Zoo has an aviary viewed from the deck of a boat.

I'm hoping polar bear viewing a la submarine!

Minnesota Zoo is planning underwater viewing from a submerged boat. Its all the rage.

I wonder what people from Africa would think about these Western-centered takes on Africa. Especially when we are dumping 1950's planes in lion exhibits now.

I should have been more specific about it pertaining to African Lion exhibits. Good to know about Chattanooga.

The newest inhabitant of Heart of Africa has been revealed: the saddle-billed stork.

Three Humboldt's penguin chicks have hatched recently. Two are males, and the gender of the third chick is still unknown.

6 spots left on the Heart of Africa list to be revealed. From the graphics I see that they have several animals rendered but not listed yet.

It appears the final two mystery animals are Zebra and Meercat based on write ups about the exhibit. Is this correct?

Animal List (as far as I can tell)
Blue Neck Ostrich
Dromedary Camel
Vervet Monkey
Wildebeest
Guineafowl
Saddle Billed Stork
Thomson's Gazelle
Dama Gazelle
Slender Horned Gazelle
East African Crowned Crane
Lion
Lesser Kudu
Waterbuck
Cape Buffalo
Reticulated Giraffe
Meerkat
Grant's Zebra

First off, you can't always trust renders as they're just that - artist renders. That said, you've pretty much got it. There will not be waterbuck or cape buffalo, but rather Masai giraffes and cheetahs. Also, the kudu will be greater not lesser.

So they are going to have Hybrid Complex and Masai Giraffe? I assume on different exhibit space of course.

These look Reticulated.

While it sucks there are no Buffalo/Waterbuck (which I only saw in the renderings you are right) I am glad the trend going forward seems to be Africa "expansion" packs. IE all these zoos that have spent the past several years investing in top level (ie expensive) exhibits for African Elephant - Birminghan, Nashville, Dallas are seeing the next level of these expansions to be much less expensive Hoofstock additions.

After the previous generation regarding the decimation of hoofstock exhibitary, I am glad it is cycling back.

I visit a lot of zoos but I am still fairly novice in AZA practices. All of these great African Exhibits seem to list a definite "set" of animals - Does the AZA put out guidelines about what these exhibits should contain or is it simply the consequence of the animals able to be sourced? I mean the following specific animals keep surfacing on these exhibit lists particularly Saddle Billed Stork.
