Did you read the article? Kings Island in South Ohio and Cedar Park in North Ohio attract millions of visitors a year.

I stated that wrong. I feel that because there is already Kings Island and Cedar Point, plus the zoo and Zoombezi Bay in the area, I feel it wouldn't be a game changer and suddenly people will all just go there.

While not directly related to the zoo, a massive new 350 acre theme park is under construction in the Columbus area. It will include one animal feature: a butterfly house. I am wondering how the influx of tourists will affect the zoo. Will the zoo get more visitors as a result of more tourists visiting the area? Or will the zoo get less visitors because locals will opt to go to the theme park instead of the zoo?
A New $2-billion Amusement Park Four Times the Size of Disneyland Is Coming to Ohio

It has to happen first. I have seen enough things proposed that have never started or completed.
If you look at the map, it is not an amusement park. It is too haphazard. I reminds me of an entertainment outlet mall. Most of those activities are not in amusement parks.

Like Tigervalley said it has to happen first just living in southern Ohio there has been so many proposed projects that never got off the ground like we were supposed to get a aquarium here but it fell through in ended up in Newport Kentucky and a year ago some developers had the bright idea that we needed some sort of zoo in between Dayton and Cincinnati

The pregnancy was via AI, and the sire was either Hank or Samson. Here's hoping for a Hank baby. The lineage Samson is from is very well established already.

The polar bear cubs are all on the move this fall. The girls will both go to Maryland while Nuniq's placement will be announced later.

Columbus Zoo: Three polar bears moving to other zoos

I am beyond thrilled about this news and the Maryland Zoo finally did something to convince me to join as a member again. However, now I really wish the zoo didn't take in the orphaned grizzly bears a couple years ago. The polar bear exhibit was split in half and I feel the current yard used by their current polar bear will be a tad too small for two growing polar bears. Especially after the big yard they had in Columbus. Plus they are in the exhibit all enclosed in glass. Maybe the zoo will switch things up and let the bears rotate yards.

Zoo Tours Ep. 36: The Inspiring Polar Frontier at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

The Polar Frontier, an A+ attraction in an A+ zoo. This tundra themed complex opened in May of 2010, making the zoo's second newest region to be revealed. While it acts as its own separate world, it was created as an extension to the North America region. Three animals are laid out in 4.5 acres disguised as a long abandoned mining town. Arctic foxes, rescued Brown bears, and arguably the stars of the zoo, the Polar bears. Their habitat has been argued as the country's greatest home for polar bears. It's complete with two large pools, and a large grassy meadow, with so much space the bears never venture to every corner. Come to the Columbus Zoo, and see them not only swim beside you, but also watch in awe as they walk above you in the underwater viewing area. Inspiration lies here at the Polar Frontier at the Columbus Zoo.

Quick update from the zoo today.

Preparation for Wildlights is well underway.

I was surprised to see there are now banners hanging up advertising Tasmanian devils are coming in 2019 to Australia and the Islands. I assume they will go in the Roadhouse building but there did look to be some new construction flags/marking in the area.

The bad news is I am now guessing the new sea lion exhibit will not be ready for 2019. The construction site looks basically unchanged since May. And the banner hanging on the construction fence used to read "coming in 2019" but has been changed to "now under construction." Anyone heard anything?

Not the first time an exhibit area has opened later than expected. Especially at Columbus.

Polar bear, Lee, will be moving in from Denver Zoo later this fall on a breeding recommendation with twins, Aurora and Anana.
