New updates via the zoo's newsletter (The Beastly Banner): Beastly Banner & Wilds Connection | Spring 2021

-The former black rhino habitat is being renovated and a greater white horn rhino will inhabit the space.
-The new indoor orangutan habitat should be finished in early summer.
-A Zamperla spinning roller coaster will take the place of the former log flume. This will make the Columbus Zoo the only zoo in the US to have two roller coasters.
-Dinosaurs will return to the Island Boat Ride this summer.

I liked this post for the first two news pieces, I am indifferent to the third and I actually hate the fourth one. I am not against animation dinosaur exhibits, but Columbus' is just takes over the whole Islands section of the zoo!

I agree, the dinosaurs sound awful!
 
Squirrel became ill last month. She "was observed separating herself from Stubby, losing her appetite and not producing feces." She had a CT scan March 24th, which showed no blockages, but a slow moving gut. She was given fluids, antibiotics, and had a fecal transfaunation, where Stubby's "fecal material was tubed into Squirrel's stomach". She is now good as new :)

Einstein was rescued from Steinhatchee River with his injured mom who did not survive.

Acorn, also an orphan, was found emaciated and floating off a dock near the Crystal River.

The pair marks the 34th and 35th manatees to arrive in Columbus.

Today is the 2-year anniversary of #s 30 and 31, Bananatee and Tostone, arriving :) Funny timing.

The male has arrived. 4 year old Brian from the Center for Conservation of Tropical Ungulates. He will eventually become the breeding male at The Wilds.

I imagine the zoo will function like the San Diego Zoo does with the species, breeding at the larger facility and holding younger males at the smaller facility.

I assume the male is an offspring from one of the Patna Zoo - Bihar imported bulls, so genetically significant as a breeding animal.
