The zoo just celebrated their Asian Elephant calf, Frankie’s, first birthday today since his original birthday party plans were cancelled due to his brother Beco dying of EEHV. Both him and Sunny are getting their blood tested regularly and are being very carefully monitored. In exciting news, they’ve been working on artificially inseminating one of their cows, Rudy. It’s about time considering she’s nearly 21 years old and is approaching that breeding cutoff of 25 years. Hope things work out and Columbus has more calves soon!

On September 2nd, the zoo announced that they are building a new exhibit for weedy sea dragons in the Australia and the Islands region. The Roadhouse Nocturnal Building will be closed from September 6th to early 2023 for construction.

The exhibit will be 1,200 square feet and will feature a 10-inch curved acrylic tank, updated graphics, and conservation messages.

Wait… will the Sea Dragons be… replacing the Roadhouse…?

The sea dragons are going into the building. The building will be closed while they are constructing the exhibit.
But where would they even go in the building? Is this an expansion? Are any animals getting replaced? I fail to see where the heck they’d fit in.
Sorry if I’m being annoying. The Roadhouse is just one of my favorite exhibits at any zoo ever and I’d hate to see any of the Australasian weirdos in there get replaced by some frankly out-of-place fish.

Maybe they're putting them in the non-nocturnal section at the beginning of the building? Or in the aviary?

Neither of those makes more sense than the aquarium, though? At the front ruins the entry theming, and aviary would take away from the birds.
