Paid a visit yesterday . Although Welsh school holideays have not started yet it was busy with families , presumably visitors to the area .
Work has started on the new Lion Enclosure with the base and steelwork on the sizeable house erected . It is in the central area of the Zoo , where there were paddocks for alpaca , reindeer and domestic sheep .
Quite a bit of other work on the Zoo . The Tapir Lake/Island have been worked on and a new anti-fox fence erected . It all looks very bare at present and the large number of waterfowl of many species which have been introduced were perched on rocks surrounding lake . I will post a few photos later .
A second Ocelot Enclosure has been erected adjoining the original . I found the new Red River Hog Enclosure , which is tucked away beyond the sitatunga .The deep woodchip yard is dry and a small grassed paddock is available for summer use next to it .
A new South American Primates House has been built near the penguins . two , not very large , open-topped enclosures were being worked on . Inside a group of common squirrel monkey could be seen for one side and I think there were white-faced sakis for the other . Also a small 'nocturnal' exhibit for douroucoulis . No sigs up for any of this yet .
The 4 remaining male giraffe were all together , I think the male that died was the one kept separately . Lovely big lively group of over a dozen cusimanse . Penguins nesting . A new group of common eider ducks in Penguin Nursery pool .
Enjoyed walk around the farm area across the road , nice selection of sheep , pigs , goats , ponies , horses and donkeys , also alpaca , llama and big red deer herd with stag in velvet . No cattle though .
