From memory, the enclosure wasn’t that great. It had a decent grassy area but a pretty small pool (more like a pond!) and a classic zoo “hippo house.” Views from the car weren’t that great either. The last time I visited the house was still there, and you could make out the foundations of the pool if you knew where to look. I don’t know how many hippos the enclosure could hold, but one seemed more than enough.
A shame really. I always thought Woburn could make a decent go of housing Common hippo.
I've heard plans Wodburn might house them again in the future. It remains to be seen whether they actually will, but as facility they do have the space to hold them. A large exhibit for a large pod could definitely be something for them to consider.
