St. Paul's Como Zoo will open its $14 million, 13,000 square foot polar bear exhibit in 2010:

The now $15 million polar bear exhibit upgrade will open this summer, and it has two outdoor exhibit areas, saltwater pools, an indoor area able to be viewed by the public, a 260 sq. ft. "dig pit", and is four times larger than the old bear enclosure.

If I can make my proposed 2010 trip to Minnesota with my wife, to see our niece play with the Minnesota Lynx this summer, Como Zoo would also be a nice side trip. Though the Minnesota Zoo would still be the second priority to the basketball game. I don't know if I can squeeze both zoos into this limited (3 nights) trip, but I'll try my darnedest.

Interesting decision to write the article from the perspective of a polar bear, but does anyone know what the "Three Diamond Rating" is? Excerpt:

"We've been sniffing and pawing and trying to get used to this new space, which is supposed to be really great. It's the only polar bear exhibit in the U.S. — and the second in the world after Toronto's — to get the Three Diamond Rating by Polar Bears International, which is like a really big deal, they say."
