Zoo København Copenhagen Zoo News 2016

Three meerkats have arrived at the zoo. I'll let that fact speak for itself. They still have the (slightly) rarer banded mongooses, though.

They are apparently going to move into a new part of the African area. I don't know if it'll house any other new species.

It will: Three porcupines have arrived, they are going to live with the meerkats in the new area. But first they will be in quarantine for some weeks.

Porcupines also tend to be crowd-pleasers when they're out and about, so maybe one can get some peace and quiet to look at Tasmanian devils while all others are gathered at the meerkat exhibit. :P

Hm, I guess I should cut them some slack regarding the meerkats, though, despite that species being horrifyingly mainstream - Copenhagen Zoo has had a reasonable track record of acquiring rare species (Tasmanian devils, wombats, white woodpeckers, razorbills/guillemots/puffins, red duikers etc.) the latest years, especially compared to some of the other Danish zoos.

Okapi born this morning to Luani - gender unknown but doing fine so far :)

Sadly the zoos only Duiker (Red Natal species) has been killed by a fox

Copenhagen will also be exchanging Polar Bears in early 2017. The current 1.1 pair have proved to be incompatible. The current male will be moving on, a new male will arrive and plans are also afoot to add a 2nd female to the collection

Surely this is big news.

Apparently, Tasmanian wombats are in 3 collections in European zoos with 11 individuals present! Wonder what other European zoos have them ... though?!
