Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens Cotswold Giraffes

Apparentley they've only just started clearing the old ostrich house.

Cotswold Wildlife Park is building a new giraffe facility due to be completed in Autumn next year.

Has anyone got any pictures of the site or any more info?

I went today, so far there is nothing to show, its just an empty field full of grass , bushes and a few trees

Will they be asked to hold some of the surplus hybrid animals or will they have a breeding herd?

Have they ever held giraffes before?

From what I have heard from people I know at Cotswold it will be a single sex group of Hybrid Giraffes to start off with.

Hopefully, this will finally resolve the issue of hybrid breedings in the UK! It is good to hear that a zoo is prepared to go that way for the good of the entire giraffe EEP in the UK/Europe. :)

And when they have moved all the hybrid females out of collections with pure males.

Apparentley they've only just started clearing the old ostrich house.

The ostrich house has been completely flattened and cleared, but that's as much visible progress as there is.

... but the ostriches were still in their field.

Their old house, down by the lions, has been flattened and will become the Giraffe House site. The ostriches are currently in the old Blackbuck house/paddock that adjoins the flamingo lake.

The work has started on the new Giraffe House with foundations in.26/11/09.New moat also being dug and some trees removed.

1:0 Hybrid (Koife, ex Twycross) and 1:0 Rothschild (Century, born 2006 at Longleat) Will arrive from Colchester on June 2nd and will then be joined by another 1:0 Hybrid from Blair Drummond in the same week.

If I remember rightly the Blair Drummond male is the son of Chester's pure female Aoife who came down in July 2008 from the park.

According to the parks facebook page, the giraffes should be on display next week.
