Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens News 2023

They did once post an archive picture of a Grevy's chasing the rhino in the early days of the park! Linked at the bottom of this article.

I wasn't aware Cotswold had kept Grevy Zebras, possibly not for very long though as I never saw them there and I visited not many years after they first opened. They certainly had a much larger group of Chapmans than nowadays, hence the stable block that is now the 'Little Africa' exhibit.

I never saw Grevy's zebra at Cotswold either; however, checking the studbook, shows that Cotswold had Grevy's zebra between 1971 and 1977.

Having had an off show tour of the new facility, it really is fantastic. Props to Keeper James for his brilliant design!

Visited Cotswolds today, i enjoyed all the new aviaries and the amount of Bali Myna's there is great

a keeper as we were going into the Madagascar walkthrough said that there was a 2 week old bamboo lemur baby i don't know if that was already said, we didn't see it but saw one bamboo lemur in there

As well as that, we saw what looked like a bamboo lemur but could have been a red bellied lemur in an enclosure behind the colobus and burrowing owls

it was lovely to go and nice to see a zoo with a good amount of birds

Enjoyable late afternoon at CWP on the way back from some horse eventing photography. As I arrived around 330pm it was raining torrentially (the water was washing across the tarmac car park in waves) and people were fleeing to their cars and leaving which made for a quiet park pre 6pm closing!

I noticed this weekend last year (the event runs on the same weekend) it was 33 degrees and the grass in the yellow mongoose enclosure was burned yellow. Today the enclosure looked like it does in spring!

There are new mice exhibits in the little Africa area that has been empty for a little while. In a tank on the left are Barbary striped grass mice and on the right African Pygmy mice. I saw one Barbary mouse and two pygmies guess there are more. I haven’t seen either before so that was great. Phone pics attached.

The red panda exhibit is open again with two pandas now in residence - they were both in the trees and looked happy together.

The rhino house was closed and all the windows covered in plastic so perhaps a new small rhino or some issue with the current ones. Only the male was out in the paddock.

10 helmeted Guinea fowl were running about on the open area near the zebra.

No doubt inspired by the best sloth enclosure thread the sloth was super active - first time I’ve ever walked into the tropical house and found it climbing about without having to wait a while.

The gardens are looking beautiful with even more flowers than on my last visit - just a few more months to enjoy the flowers but a great job all round by the gardens team.

A white rhino was born at CWP on Saturday night/ Sunday morning and is now on view inside the rhino house.

Visited CWP yesterday afternoon with the intention of seeing the new baby rhino, only to find the rhino house shut again and the doors covered in plastic when it has been open all week! The female rhino on the right (Nancy?) was also completely shut in the house whilst Queenie was outside with Molly and D’Ora.

I did however get to see the new red panda at last - I don’t suppose anyone knows anything about him?

Two babies, born around a week or so apart, different mothers.
Indeed. The video claims that the male was born on the 12th and the female a week later. It doesn’t give an exact date for the female, but I certainly hope that it means exactly seven days later, as then she would have the same birthday with me! :p
