Lovely day out at CWP today - lots of the animals enjoying the autumn sun and the gardens and park looking beautiful as the leaves turn. Particularly good activity in the big free flight aviaries where all the birds were enjoying baths and drying off in the sun. The rhinos enjoying a mud bath was also a treat.
The lake area is closed off again due to avian flu precautions (which the park have mentioned on the website) and this means once again turning around at the wolves vs going on the loop. The zebras are also off show temporarily as the walls in the enclosure are being repaired.
The cabybara are now divided across two paddocks - the original one near the tapir and then also newly signed in the enclosure previously occupied by the crested screamers (in between the two anteater enclosures). Couldn’t see a new location for the screamers - it may be they are in one of the holding spaces near the lake which can’t be accessed at the moment.
The lion house continues to make good progress with some very smart wooden cladding now installed on one side.

Bright sunny day at CWP today. Gardens look great as we get deeper into Autumn and a lot of the animals were active, enjoying a day without torrential rain as much as the visitors!
Some parma wallabies have been added to the emu enclosure near the colobus. The lake area remains closed due to Avian flu precauations and the birds have also moved out of the Madagascar walkthrough (purple swamp hens and sacred ibis).
The zebra are back on show in their paddock again with repairs completed on the ha-ha.

Interesting - when I went in December 2021, both species were in the walkthrough ...

Yes and they were there on my last visit above, so I assume it's a temporary precaution for avian flu measures vs anything permanent as birds have always been a feature in there. Last month there were extra foot baths at the entrance / exit and those have been removed, so probably moving the birds altogether helps with reducing the risk.

Up at CWP today - very cold indeed but beautiful and bright and it was such a lovely day to be at the park. Very few visitors today - one of the least populated days I’ve seen but the weather may have put a few people off. What a privilege it is to have bits of a zoo to yourself though! Lots of active animals and the gardens are all in their winter state now with the tropical trees wrapped up etc.
The young binturong enjoyed some active playtime in the afternoon sun and that was a real highlight.
Couple of changes around the place. Some building improvement in the large black stork / large bird mixed aviary in the walled garden The cladding is also now on the new lion house and very smart it looks too. Phone pics of the aviary house and lion house work below.
In the small courtyard opposite the lemur walkthrough the emperor tamarin group have swapped places with the coppery titi monkey, Pygmy marmoset group. More room for the coppery titis in particular after they had their new arrival this year.

The spoonbills, storks and purples swamp hens who usually occupy the large aviary just outside the walled garden entrance are off show - now signed as on show in that space are the red billed chough, smew, Eurasian widgeon and black crowned night heron. Birds are also still understandably not in the lemur walkthrough at the moment.

CWP have mentioned on their social media they will be closed tomorrow (Monday 12th December) due to the weather conditions. They are rebooking or sorting out ticket issues for anyone who has purchased one.

The spoonbills and storks are back out in the large aviary near the walled garden which was nice to see. The cranes near the wolves have moved off show.
No changes to the avian flu closures around the lake as to be expected.
Lots of active animals enjoying the sun including one of the wolverines climbing right up to the top of one of the tallest trees in the enclosure which was very cool. Even the clouded leopards were out and about. The two young colobus are also now playing around quite far from their mothers which made for some fun rough and tumble.
